Description My first Pyrovore I finally painted it. Yes, this one actually is a metal pyrovore.... big and very heavy and a pain to assemble.... yes leviathan splinter colour... yes snow. Snow effects were made using a mix of PVA glue, water, snow floc and babypowder.

In game pyrovores are possibly the worst unit in the entire game... YES THE ENTIRE 40k. They used to be expensive, fragile and short ranged.... armed only with a single heavy flamer and can explode and kill your own guys.

In this edition, pyrovores got even worse. Despite their apparent buff in that they got cheaper and gained an extra wound and attack, they got even worse than the previous codex specifically as they don't have access to the mycetic spore anymore. Formerlly that was the only viable way to ensure at least a single burny burny use of your pyrovores. deep strike n burn.... but now without deep strike as an option, all your pyrovores can do is waddle slowly towards the enemy and die halfway and explode and kill some of your own gaunts..... or you can try using trygon tunnels but most of the time your pyrovores will either arrive at the same time or before the said trygon and end up having to footslog slowly towards the enemy again.

So, if pyrovores are so horrible, why DO I have one? Well firstly pyrovores look cool. a kinda nasty tyranid ... and secondly there's another unit in the codex called a biovore that is effectively a living mortar. It looks like a more dopy version of the pyrovore, and has similar statlines.... hence my pyrovore lives it's days in my tyranid army as my army's biovore, annoying people at long range by spitting little irritating spore mines at them and occasionally winning a game for me by camping on objectives in my base in the 1/6 chance he happens to be a scoring unit. Hence I used the prettier and more menacing pyrovore model as a biovore instead and it looks a hell lot cooler.

So yes, this guy's a staple in my tyranid army.... though I use him as a different unit instead.

Great paint job! Sucks that such a good looking character is just as unused and untouched as a white crayon, if not more... :/

Counts-as-biovores are probably the only real use for pyrovores these days. (I mean ugh that biovore model looks nasty, like a tumor with feet)

That being said, I love the weathered stripes effect you have at the edges on the chitin plates and the shine on the red veins makes them look nice and organ-y.

Counts-as-biovores are the most common use for pyrovores these days and the best use for them for anyone who actually kinda likes the pyrovore model... sadly enough. The Biovore model is butt-ugly and looks dopey and silly.

heh thanks much. the stripes are easy to do, just require a lot of patience to paint all of them.

Organyyyyy thanks

Actually last edition they did not have the mycetic spore, it was not a dedicated transport option for them, you had to foot slog them (I thought about them as suicide units but saw this and was like NOPE), also yes they are awesome models and you did an amazing job painting them but they are like mandrakes for dark eldar, the guessing game to what they count as

Erm,
I have the previous codex tyranids here and having looked through it several times prior, Mycetic spores ARE a dedicated transport option for the pyrovores. It's right there in their options on pg 89.

This edition you have to go and footslog them.

At least mandrakes can hit hard in close combat. this thing... ughhh sure it can ignore armor saves but with only one attack and a crappy Ws too... good luck.
