Description
Snapshot of the studio (used to be the dining room, but "a man does not live by bread alone. . .") Far top shows a home-made light board with dimmer switch and calibrated edges. Made it from a lectern I bought cheap at flea market. It has a rolling cast iron base and height adjusts to working seated or standing. Behind and to the left of it is a 3/4 length mirror, for studying facial expressions and gestures. At right angles to right of the light board is an industrial drawing board in combination with a sliding flat work table and a desk. Got it free with free delivery from a shop where it was taking up valuable space. Sucker weighs 300 to 400 lbs.
I made separate module trays for penciling and inking equipment that can be held by mounts I built into the boards. I swap them out depending on whether I'm inking or penciling. In addition, I have a side mount on the industrial board to hold other equipment, such as mechanical drawing tools, that I generally need at hand.
Hidden in the shadows to the left is a taboret flanked by cabinets and overlaid by shelves. This is where I keep things that I'm not always reaching for.
In the foreground, left, a small cart for odds and ends sits at right angles to this, opposite the light board. I've got another one, not shown. These are for current projects.
The doors and window face North West, so the light is a reflected steady light all day, except in summer, when for about two hours in late afternoon it is blinding. At that time I block the window or break for a bike ride.
____________________________
Streamlined this space in the summer of 2010, which included removing the side tray and all the modules from the board. Replaced the cabinets with a 9 drawer dresser that has a mirror on top and added a bulletin board in the nook by the window. If/when I ever start generating income and can get a camera, I'll post an updated picture
_______________
Upgraded again in 2013 replacing the dresser with wall units shown in recent photos.
