Description
After playing Wind Waker so long ago, I'm still fascinated about how the Hyrule there actually looks like. You're always on this vast sea with a few islands, and at most you get to explore the castle and a bit of the environs of Hyrule iself. But I think as everyone else I guess that wasn't enough for this lovely game. I went searching the net for any fanmade Wind Waker Hyrule, and I find NOTHING. Maybe didn't search THAT much, but I expected to yield some results.
That's when I decided to take this project upon myself.
When making this map, one of the annoying issues was the amount of islands on the Wind Waker map I based it of.
That is mountain tops. They are many, which makes Hyrule almost too spiky, so I also ruled out a bunch. Some island I guess could be artificial or floating (in some way). In that way, I reduced the amount and made my Hyrule a little less spiky.
Then I tried to get as much glimpse of the Hyrule Castle area I could to make a nice rendering.
Another nice touch is the relation to all areas I've placed out.
Familiar areas from the loose prequel, Ocarina of Time.
Also the connection of the Hyrule days to the Great Sea present day. The square grid is helpful for Great Sea comparison.
- Lost Woods where the Great Deku tree takes super growth to stay above sea level.
- Zoras Domain at the base of what would be Greatfish Island, Jabun's place where he would later move.
- Gerudo Desert with Gerudos Domain also has an interesting idea. Tetra mentioned that Forsaken Fortress used to be a base for other pirates than themselves, this could've pointed towards the Gerudos.
- Kakariko Village is close to what would later be Windfall island, a possible mountain top for their descendents.
As a bonus I've also added some few new locations of this Hyrule which could be interesting. Some might even be dungeons to explore. Too bad that there might not have been a Link living in this era though.
The whole result of this work is a Hyrule in Wind Waker's cel-shaded style that all will hopefully enjoy!

Enjoy!

This is really cool! I'm glad you did this. I've always loved just sitting down and looking out across Hyrule Castle's bridges into the lakes, and, honestly, I think this is a fairly realistic map. Well done and true to the game. (I also noticed that there are quite a few places where it really looks like the Twilight Princess map as well.) Great job!

Thanks! ^ There was a lot of thought behind the map. I tried linking some things both back and forward in the timeline.

Well I think you did just spetacular. Really, this is one of the best (and most well thought out) Zelda things I've seen in a while.

Neat idea. You only get a few glimpses of Hyrule in Wind Waker and I've wanted to know myself just how the heck things are supposed to be arranged.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is...if there were Gerudos at the Forsaken Fortress, why would Ganondorf chase them out?

I don't remember Ganondorf chasing them out of that place.
Just Tetra mention that place was a hideout for a bunch of no good pirates. And besides, all human-pirate references seem to point to the Gerudos.

This seriously ranks among the best fan-made maps of Hyrule I've seen!
Thank you very much

Dude, that is really awsome! I know a glitch to get off the path leading to Ganon's tower. You have to hookshot to the first part of the broken bridge and try to get on top of the target. Then you use your deku leaf and fly off the path. If you need a demonstration Youtube it. You can't go that far though because most of the ground there isn't even solid. I recomend throwing a bomb or shooting an arrowing at the ground to make sure it's solid.

Huh. That's actually pretty cool.
I would've loved to actually get to explore the land like this in Wind Waker~

I thought the Wind and Earth Temples were gonna be accessible that way, but no...

I like this idea. I've tried to come up with some sort of render for what the land of Hyrule looked like beneath the waters, trying to base it around Ocarina of Time. But it would not work, there are too many mountains/islands and Hyrule from Ocarina of Time did not have that many mountains, so... brainjam.
Good job though! You deserve a round of applause.

Thank you very much!
Mountains sure ruin it. But it worked although with all mountains.
But the Great Sea must be the biggest Zelda map so far, although the dead space compensates, so I guess they aren't too close in all.

You're welcome.
I don't really think the Great Sea map is very big, it just seems that way because of all of the space between islands and the time it takes to traverse it by sailboat.
Anyway, you really did an awesome job of it. It looks fantastic. D'you plan on making any other Zelda-related maps? I'm trying my luck at making a representation of New Hyrule from Spirit Tracks.

Well, don't have any planned. Well see...
And is there another Hyrule which haven't been seen fully?

Ah, ok. I was just wondering. Oh, as far as I know... not really. Most have been mapped out already, either by Nintendo or by fans.

Awesome!
I love the topography effect.
I too often wondered what Hyrule looked like beyond the explorable area.
Nicely done!
