"Pumpkin! You better get up, your brother already left for school! You better catch up or you'll be late!" Mrs. Cake called up the stairs to her sleeping daughter, then walking back to the candy shelves to restock. She sighed, wondering what she will do with that mare.
She hears a high pitch screech and scrambling hooves from the floor above. Then tumbles down the yellow and orange mare.
"Gah! Why didn't Pound wake me up! Ugh, I'm gonna get him for this!" Pumpkin cried as she gathered her book bag.
Mrs. Cake giggled and turned around to her daughter, "Deary, hurr-"
Mrs. Cake suddenly stopped in her tracks and just stared at her daughter. She couldn't believe her eyes.
"I didn't have time to brush and braid my hair today, I know I'm too fluffy today, just don't sta- mom?" Pumpkin stopped and looked at her mom, her brows furrowing. "Mom, why are you crying?"
Mrs. Cake didn't realize she had tears in her eyes, quickly covering her face and turning around. "I-I just got dust in my eyes! Now, go! Don't be late for school."
She heard her daughter gasp as she forgot what she was doing and run out the door, forgetting to close it on the way out.
Mrs. Cake walked to the door and watched her daughter. How didn't she notice until now? Oh, how Mrs. Cake missed her friend, Buttercup. She smiled as she let a single tear roll down, thinking that maybe this was a sign from her friend that she's alright and that she missed her, too.

I have a headcannon that Pumpkin Cake would grow up to look a lot like Pear Butter, A.K.A, Buttercup. She would have differences from her though, and I think she would only look like that because Pumpkin would sleep with her hair in a ponytail/bun and would be a curly, puffy natural state if she didn't brush it.
Mrs. Cake would be reminded of her friend on those days.
