I clicked on it and I was like "oh my god, that's phantom!" Your dogs are SO CUTE

Well, I've always been REALLY interested in photography, and there is a group called photohunt that does 20 minute challenges. I really got into it! I actually have a lot of photos from the past year I need to upload... problem is I don't know my own photos from my husbands (we share two cameras and I constantly forget which photos are mine.) The other thing is that I've only had a good camera since I've known my husband, I used to just have a point and shoot. (Sony Cybershot) and cellphone cameras... which really aren't the greatest.

It must be awesome having a dog! :3 I had a dog briefly but that's a long story. Phantom looks really friendly and loyal.

I miss him so much. And to be perfectly honest, we barely knew each other at that point. We just bonded immediately. In fact, I took him to a pet store for a wash before we even went home and they were convinced that we had been together for ages because of how well behaved and attached he was to me.

I envy you so much right now! I always wanted a dog like that! One day....
Also love his name.

Phantom is such a doll. I miss him tons. He's staying with my mum. Everyone that actually met him loved him and couldn't believe that he'd only been with me a few days because of how well behaved he was. We meshed really well. The instructor thought Phantom and I had been together for years

Awww! I know how that feels. When I moved from my parents I had to leave my shar pei puppy behind as well because it costs a LOT to move animals on planes and stuff like that. Plus she'd have to stay in a tiny apartment. She's probably happier at my parents' house she got used to being there. It would be selfish to move her now just for my sake.
Sounds like Phantom is an angel! I don't even get it why people are so afraid of the breed.

I really really want to bring him, but we're worried about even affording our apartment right now. I don't care how long it's been, Phantom is going to come home with me when I can have a place with him. I love him just way too much, and I don't like having to leave him with my mum. Animals tend to die for no reason in her care. So I worry a LOT. I have been keeping on top of her so he's been good.

People are afraid of the breed because a lot of these dogs are used for fighting. Their breed was created for fighting. So there are a few dogs from bad lines that snap. But the truth is that any dog can just snap, we just hear about the pitt and pitt mixes because that's what people are afraid of and so that's what makes the news and gets reported... you know what we don't hear about? Those damned chiwawas that run after you and bite your ankles for no good reason!

Zeeria In reply to SolarLunix [2015-10-14 18:50:21 +0000 UTC]

I suppose it also depends on how far you have to move him ^^ I'd have to move my Tali pretty far, get her a passport, all sort of tests and what not so that is costly and that is roughly about a year's time worth of waiting before I can actually move her.  Sooo yeah. If I knew ahead of time I was going to move within half a year of getting her, I just wouldn't have gotten her to begin with TnT
I kind of giggled at that, but your mom sounds a wee bit like my grandma. She loves her dogs and tends to show it by over feeding them sometimes...

Yeah I agree. I seen labs bite people in the face too, but no one bats an eye. I believe that it depends a lot on how you bring them up. And I read that all dogs warn before they bite and as an "owner" (I hate that word) you must notice the warning signs. I don't know it first hand, but I read and heard a lot of people say that pitts are great with kids and are really sweet and loving dogs. They only become aggressive if they feel that their loved ones are being threatened or if someone keeps bugging them for a long time. There are some interesting documentaries and studies about dog body language I feel like anyone that wants a dog friend should read up on stuff like that it can be useful.
And I agree. I am not quite sure what makes those tiny dogs be so mean and weird Oo I never got it.

From the USA to Ireland currently, but we plan on moving to the states, and I don't care how far we have to move if we're on the same continent my baby is coming with me! I will eventually get him his passport if we decide to stay here in Ireland. I would have said the same thing about Phantom (I moved like 5 months after I got him) but if I HADN'T gotten him, I would never have met my husband and then I never would've moved.

My mum is NOT like your grandma. She won't take him to the vet even if something is CLEARLY wrong with him, and our last dog died at two years old because she wouldn't take him to the vet even though he was clearly not feeling well. I was just starting to get him better when he ate a bunch of chocolate due to their carelessness. I now make them tape up all the cabinets and put all food into the places that he can't reach. My brothers seem smart enough to do that now though.

What a lot of people don't understand is that you need to know your dog like you know your best friend. They may not be able to talk, but if you REALLY have a a dog you know exactly what annoys them and if they're being out of the ordinary. And I hate the word owner too, I always call myself his parent, but when it's the family dog it's my brother (I don't often get female animals).

I'd trust Phantom around infants, of course, no matter what, you always have to be there when there is a young child with a dog, or the child has to be out of the dog's reach (like through bars of a crib). Just in case the child annoys the dog unknowingly.

Inbreeding. At least that's what I assume.

Aw that's pretty amazing. The world feels pretty small sometimes, huh?! You sound pretty devoted too.

Well. my grandma calls the vet at least. Tho sometimes she waits a lot with it too, she still does eventually. It's weird to me that some people don't actually know that they shouldn't give chocolate to dogs because "they just want some too". By some people, I mean my brother. But I yelled a bit at him and then he stopped feeding the dog chocolate.

I do that too. xD Saying I am their parent or friend so much better. And I only had female animals when I was little. All the dogs we had were female so I somewhat got used to them the most. And I agree with you! I read an article that a man who was in some shop with an akita got asked by a 3-year-old if he can pat the dog and owner said yes, but the akita clearly didn't want that since he bit the kid. And of course the dog was going to get killed for it. That is very unfair. Sure some older gods get mental a wee bit, I'm not saying that is impossible, but if someone wants a dog around they need to inform themselves properly before getting one.

I agree. Some children don't realize it when they play too rough. It's not their fault, but the parents still shouldn't let the situation get very bad.

Well basically a lot of the pure-breed dogs were inbred. Pretty sure that is one of the biggest reason for the diseases they have. Very few countries regulate inbreeding sadly. I seen an adorable rottweiler/husky mix the other day. x3 So yeah, for me, a mix breed is not out of the question

SolarLunix In reply to Zeeria [2015-10-15 17:33:05 +0000 UTC]

It was small because my husband was so intellegent with money before I met him. He paid to come visit me and then bring me to Ireland twice. Once to visit, once to get married.

My family knows not to give the dogs chocolate. He would've been alright if he hadn't been sick. I actually had him on the track to getting better, but he was still weak. Around the time he died though, there had been the big issue with dogs being poisoned by their food.

The first female dog I've ever had is actually my husband's and she stays with his parents (as I said before).

I don't think that dogs should be put to death for a first bite unless it kills someone. We don't kill people for biting. It's self defence usually. What should happen is that they get flagged and in order to go outside the house they must wear a muzzel. It isn't the dog's fault it's the owners.

Exactly.

Yes, they are, I think we put too much on pure breed dogs. Although I do love myself a propperly breed Rottweiler. However my mix Phantom is BEAUTIFUL. As you've noticed

That's generous of him Must have been pretty awesome. You probably guessed by now that I am not married xD

Oh... Yeah. I watched some documentaries about that too. I think I will probably make my dog the food myself. I don't know how yet, but They deserve proper cooked food too. Than again some people give them raw meat. So that is an option. I don't know really. All I know is that I probably won't feed my pup commercial dog food.

A lot of dogs get killed  for snapping at someone and biting them especially if it's a child. =/

Of course! He is adorable!

I got married young for immigration purposes, however, we wanted to get married pretty quickly anway. Plus 17 Oct is just an awesome anniversary date XD

Actually, just cooking chicken and vegetables for them is the most healthy. I would do that for Phantom if I was home. Do NOT give your dog raw meet. It promotes agressiveness and all sorts of issues, plus if it's not cooked right it can actually kill them!

It's not the dog its the people. I mean god damn! Control your child (dog)! IF you know it can be a little tempermental, muzzle them in public. Phantom gets muzzled because he will fight other dogs if they smell him wrong since other dogs have attacked him before.

my baby I miss him.

Zeeria In reply to SolarLunix [2015-10-16 08:38:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh! So tomorrow is your anniversary then! Congratulations! I don't know if I will ever get married o-o Right now it feels a bit pointless, but who knows. That could change

I don't know if that is true. I heard a lot of people explaining arguments against what you said. I will very likely cook the food for my dog though. Neither sides of the "raw meet argument" has been truly proven (I think), so I won't risk it. Just going play it safe

I agree! Although I never in my life put a muzzle on any of my dogs, I can agree that if it's necessary, you should.

SolarLunix In reply to Zeeria [2015-10-16 13:26:10 +0000 UTC]

It is an out-dated system - my dad told me not to get married just to co-habitate, but I prefered the whole getting married thing. :3

Alright, even if it isn't true about agression, the fact is that it can still be deadly. The reason we cook our meat is because we need to kill the bacteria that grows on raw meat since it can make us sick. It can also make our fluffy friends sick. The only time my dog has ever gotten ahold of raw meat was when I accidentally dropped it and he was faster than I was >.>

I don't like to do it personally, but I'd rather him be safe than put down for something I could have prevented.

Zeeria In reply to SolarLunix [2015-10-18 06:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Well I don't know about traditions regarding weddings in other countries, but back home they make a massive fuss out of it. They hire chefs and waiters, pay a LOT for it, everything has to be fancy and pretty. And it is really really costly. I just feel like it's a waste of money oO But considering the bonding, in way it deepens the relationship (according to people that got married) so they  say it's worth it for that reason. I am of how to feel about it right now, since I still have time and other things to worry about. But if I ever get married, it probably won't be a huge party or anything. Just a simple ceremony with maybe only parents and best friends there. And a simple family dinner afterwards. I don't know xD

Yeah that is my fear too! Bacteria can be dangerous to them maybe! But than again it is a common misconception that dogs or other animals are like humans. Our bodies work differently. The ancestors of dogs are wolves and wolves eat raw meat so their system is used to it and can deal with the bacteria that a human body wouldn't be able to handle. I don't know how domesticated wolves evolved over the years and since people fed their dogs cooked or "prepared" meals, if that made them more vulnerable to the bacteria or not. There used to be a woman on youtube that uploaded videos about training her great dane and tips and such and she fed her dog raw meet only. The dog lived a pretty long life, longer than danes are expected to on average. But as I said, I will probably cook the meat for my dog I'd feel better about it XD All these different theories are a bit overwhelming and I think I'd stick to something that is safe. Alternatively we can always ask a vet.

Word! I can't agree more!

SolarLunix In reply to Zeeria [2015-10-20 21:03:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I had a very small wedding, only family. And a pretty cheap dress. I didn't even go through the whole big dress shopping thing (which I actually am sad I missed out on, just cause it was a nice family thing).

Well, I can say for certian that it's better to feed your dog people food because most dog foods don't have the necessary nutrition.

Zeeria In reply to SolarLunix [2015-10-21 05:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... I never thought about it that way. I don't even like dresses. By the way you describe it, the type of wedding you had is the type I'd wan too if I ever wanted to get married.

Yup! x3  I am pretty excited about getting a dog some day. But first I need to afford it.

You just hit the nail in the head.... A pet is happy with food, shelter, and affection....

We humans always want more. We create more complex definitions of happiness that in the end just make us unhappy

The lovely thing is that they give you unconditional love in return. Phantom will be getting a job soon though. I am having him trained as a service dog since I have a diagnosis that qualifies.

I'm content as long as you're not using/abusing me. I can't stand when people just ask for more and more and more and more from me.

It is about cooperating. You can order anything to your dog within its level of comprehension. He will accept you as its leader. Humans tend to have power strugles

Sometimes, as you mention people fall into abusive situations. Did you watch a movie called "DogVille"?
