Hi! I'm commenting for ProjectComment comment tags! My word was girl. This artwork caught my eye in particular because it seemed to have an interesting concept to it.
Before I start talking about this artwork, I thought I should mention that I do realize that is was drawn in 2013 xD But even still, it's a really great picture, and I thought I should leave a comment on it. It also matched my tag word pretty well!

I gather a few different meanings from this art. At the beginning, I thought that the picture expressed the skeletons desire to become human. From holding the book it made me think that It wanted to imagine what it would be like to be human. Then I thought that maybe the skeleton just wanted to imagine what it would be like to have a friend. Either way, I think the concept is brilliant.

The details in this artwork are great. I love the way you drew and shaded the bones on the skeleton, and the panels in the wall. The draw and the window are also well shaded.

The only things that I would do differently (and this is me being picky >.<) is maybe make the shading darker and the lighter parts lighter. That way I think the details would stand out even more. And I think that the girl in the mirrors left arm should be lifted up a bit to the same height as the other arm.

Other than those things, I think this drawing is amazing, and a wonderful concept. Keep up the great work

Tag you're it! You will be tagging Efirende and your word is pink!

Thank you, I realise that I really need to do more art like this... it's been so long since I've done such a nice picture like this after all.

Actually, I was doing a take on looking into the mirror and seeing a skeleton, I wanted to show what it looked like from the skeleton's point of view. I gave her a book so that way she matched the girl in the mirror, which if you look carefully, it says "Skeletons don't read books" - the title of the piece.

I really did take a while to make sure that I got all the details, I was really worried it wouldn't come out right. I'm just happy that it went as well as it did.

yes, I do know that I really should've pushed the contrast a little more. That's something I work on with my current art, although I do a lot better with contrast in my photography than I do with my drawn art.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment in so much detail

The concept of this picture is pretty cool with the little bit of humour you put into it.
I really like the way you shaded the skeleton, it looks quite realistic. The room as a whole is well done.
While the backbone and the rips look really nice, the shoulders and the hip could have used a bit more edges/details. I also feel like there's something a bit off with the pose of the skeleton (is seems a bit stiff).
Overall I really like the unusual format and the contents of the image^^

SolarLunix In reply to Niruja [2016-01-23 17:16:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for the comment. I'm glad you like it.

The skeleton was drawn from a reference, so it might actually be stiff. I actually tied the skeleton together into this pose just so I could have the perfect reference.

Niruja In reply to SolarLunix [2016-01-27 15:33:12 +0000 UTC]

Well having an actual skeleton for reference seems quite handy.
I think the main reason that it looks stiff to me is because it stands perfectly straight while most people won't do that when they are relaxed.

I hope my comments were helpful^^

SolarLunix In reply to Niruja [2016-01-27 18:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. I mean I tend to try to stand perfectly straight when I see myself in the mirror because I really want to see how nice I look but that's just me lol But no, I see what you mean. I think that I would need to do a few studies of people before I can be knowledgeable enough to make the skeleton seem more relaxed.

They were, thank you very much!

Niruja In reply to SolarLunix [2016-01-28 23:37:46 +0000 UTC]

That's true, I'll straighten my back too in this case. I think my problem lies more with the positioning of the legs (at least I for my part mostly lean to one or the other when standing).
I think gesture drawings probably be an even better practice, since you're anatomy is already quite good and the problem lies mostly in the pose.

Hi I am from 's tag game and my word is "movie".  I selected this piece because it had a "movie" scene quality to it.

I love the concept of the skeleton seeing the body in the mirror.  Definitely a twist on the classic scene where the character looks into the mirror and sees any number of horrible reflections, including skeletons.

The first thing I always seem to notice in any drawing is the details.  I think they definitely help tell the story of a drawing.  I love that you titled the book in the mirror, and a ironic title it is as well, considering the skeleton is reading a book.  You've dated the calendar on the desk, and indicated in the reflection in the mirror the panels on the opposite wall.  Not a lot of details but just enough to make the drawing a little more interesting to look at.

The drawing itself looks really terrific.  Both the skeleton and the young lady look great.  A great job on all those bones.  Your shading for the most part is good as well. All that time you put into the drawing really paid off.

The only thing that I might have done differently would be to have made a greater contrast between lights and darks. The drawing is very light throughout and I think some dark darks would help make the drawing jump more.

Other than that the drawing is well done and it is a terrific concept.  Have a great day.

SolarLunix In reply to professorwagstaff [2016-01-19 23:56:21 +0000 UTC]

I felt that the book would've looked too empty if there were no title on it, and I wanted to make it kind of ironic since this was actually a play on the classic scene that you've described. And the detail of the date on the calendar... well, that date was actually the month and year that I finally finished the drawing. It was the last thing that I placed on the picture itself.

All of those bones were actually relatively easy for me to draw just because I had a life size plastic skeleton in the room to draw from. I actually was even able to take some string and tie his arms up to where I needed them in order to get the correct pose. It helped SO MUCH.

Yes, I agree that I could've used some more contrast, but this was as far as I felt I could push it at the time without ruining the drawing completely. I have been thinking about possibly trying another piece like this using reflections and a skeleton and I'd definitely try to push the contrast further there.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me.

Hey solar!

First of all, great concept. Deep and a little morbid - it gives me the impression that the real world is in the mirror and the world where the skeleton is, is something like a window to her mind. I also like how the girl seems to be focusing on her book, while the skeleton seems to be looking right at the girl and wondering why she's not made of bones or something. Could be just me, though

Props to you for drawing that skeleton! My only comment with the skeleton is her pelvis looks a bit narrow for a female's. That's it. lol. I really like the soft shading, and especially the nice sharp edges around the mirror. The stripey wall is a nice touch, I'm not sure if it's wallpaper or wooden planks though but it definitely adds to the detail.

SolarLunix In reply to 13-year-old [2016-01-21 11:22:30 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly what I was envisioning. The real world is on the other side of the mirror.  As for the skeleton, that's actually what I was thinking, she was busy reading and then a strange sight caught her eye and she seen she was made of flesh.

Well, it must've been a male skeleton that I used then because it was proportional to the one that was in front of me lol oh well.

It's meant to be wall paper, I thought of doing something more intricate but I'm really bad at patterns.

13-year-old In reply to SolarLunix [2016-01-22 06:45:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, cool! I guessed it!

It's hard to tell the gender of skeletons, perfectly understandable lol

And the wallpaper looks good. I think a pattern would have detracted from the overall effect.
