You're indeed welcome . But I have a question - if skeletons don't read books, what do they do?

I really dig this piece. You did a great job with the toning. I know how hard that is to pull off in graphite. It's especially difficult to get dramatic dark tones. I like the angling as well.

Thanks, I worked really hard on this one and I think it is by far my best piece. And it really is hard to get dramatic dark and light tones with graphite. >.> I'm getting better at that, but it ends up ruining the paper most of the time.
I'm so glad you like it! And the angling is kinda my own flare. I had to do it once and I fell in love using the angles and shapes. To me it feels like the odd shapes draw you into my work a little more

And now to comment for ProjectComment 's Comment tag...
When I commented on the image with your amazing dog, I didn't realize I was going to be commenting again on behalf of the group xD
So my word was "gone" and I chose this image because it gives a feeling of something missing, lost, something being gone.
I noticed that, unlike most of your other drawings of people, this one is a bit more realistic and the way you shaded the girl in the mirror is amazing. As a matter of fact the whole drawing turned out to be mind-blowing. The shading is so refined and soft, perfectly placed. Although the contrast is not necessarily strong, it contributes to the softness of the image.
The skeleton looks amazing. It kind of makes me wonder if you used references for this because the length of the arms and most of the bone parts seem to be in place and pretty accurate.
All in all, this is a wonderful drawing. It's different from your other works and it stands out. It seems to have a message, it makes the viewer think about it, it certainly made me wonder what the image was trying to convey and I came up with a few theories but they're a bit too long to elaborate. I have seen similar images, I myself once did a similar one once, except the skeleton was in the mirror, but I can tell you it didn't have the impact your image does. So even if originality would get a 4/5, the overall impact of the image most certainly makes up for it!
The only thing that I'd say was bothering me a bit was the edges of the image. It makes it feel like we're only seeing a small part of the big picture. But aside from that, your hard work certainly payed off. Beautiful shading, well drawn environment and an outstanding display of skills. Great job!
Next in line is fireytika and your word shall be "shadows". Have fun!

Actually I had a plastic skeleton tied up with string in front of me... I'm really good at tying things up with string. I have a photo somewhere.... oh... in my sta.sh.
Yeah, I do love doing realistic drawings, but I never really have inspiration for it, so sometimes I don't get things uploaded the way that I should.
I'd really like to hear your ideas before I spoil the real reason.
Actually, that's the point of the edges. It's a keyhole series of images that I did for Beginning Drawing 1 and 2.
I'm really glad you liked it. It is definitely my best piece.

O-O You studying to become a doctor or something?
I will try to keep it as short as I can. The obvious guess is that the house is haunted. Second theory was that the girl died and they put her skeleton in front on the mirror. Or maybe someone liked to read so much that they forgot to eat and take care of themselves and they died and could no longer read anymore since skeletons can't read
Ah I see. I did somehow wonder if that was intentional. xD

Nope, that was in our art room, however we did have a strong nursing department on campus.
Actually, it was a take on the skeleton in the mirror pictures. Honestly, I always felt more alive when I was reading and I was actually pretty depressed outside of the written world.
Yesh, yesh it was.

I see! Well that makes a lot of sense. We had a skeleton in our biology class (decoration xD) Not the art class sadly. But the art class was the biggest room in the school building I think. Good days...
I only recently got really into reading. When I was feeling bad I used to draw all sort of things. I removed a lot of them from dev because I thought they were pretty bad. But I used to draw with charcoal a lot at the time. I had an obsession with black. sta.sh/013qdpn8dy0w This is back in 2009 when I was still in high school. I used to do that on literature classes ¤u¤

A lot of bio classes has a skeleton. It's like a bio thing.
I used to do that a lot too XD not charcoal though, it was pencil and my first year of college it was kante or however it's spelled. Instead of taking all my stuff down I put it all in my scraps. You can see I have like 800 scraps now XD

I love love loooove this. The shading is so smooth, and makes the atmosphere indescribable, which makes it even better! The skeleton is expertly drawn, but oddly enough my favorite part of this piece is the dresser and the wallpaper. Idk they just stand out to me. the wallpaper looks so smooth and perfect, almost like you just slapped it on the paper first and then drew the picture on top of it if that makes sense haha
Excellent piece, I love it!

SolarLunix In reply to kirahimee [2015-10-08 15:25:40 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, this is by far the hardest drawing I've ever done. I really took a long time to do that wallpaper trying to make it nice and smooth like real paper and I actually used a plastic Skeleton to draw from (I have some funny pictures of a skeleton all tied up for my reference)
I really spent a long time on the dresser as well because I wanted it to look 3D and proportionally correct for the room and yada yada lol.
I'm really glad that you love it. It's my best piece.

This is a creative concept and I really love the details. The amount of work you put into this really paid off in the end in my opinion I think it means that reading can bring a person to life - I could be wrong in this.

I didn't think of this meaning, but it TOTALLY works. I was actually doing it on a dare from my professor because he showed me classic drawings that had women staring into a mirror with a skeleton and he wanted me to do some sort of play on that. I wanted to do a library kind of scene as a tribute to my writing skills as well, so your interpretation actually does have a lot of meaning to me.

using the same technique you used is really fantastic, three-dimensional realism and detail you've conducted show that you are a great artist.
I have only one question is: Why are you trying to express with this piece?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SolarLunix In reply to PATOJOX [2015-09-30 18:52:15 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for the compliment, it means a lot.
This was an assignment for class. We looked at some traditional art pieces and I seen a book full of pictures of people looking into the mirror and their skeleton staring back I thought it would be fun do do a play on that and have it from the skeleton's perspective.
I also wanted to prove to myself that I was able to do something with a high level of detail that required careful proportions, and a skeleton was the perfect thing to do, especially since we had a plastic skeleton in the classroom that we could pin up for reference. I tied it up with all sorts of string to make sure I could see it from the angle I needed it to be in.
