LOL
I just noticed that you actually did mess up.
On the cliff ridge that you added there, it's not supposed to be there.
That's where the forest meets the valley.
The only cliff ridge is in the mountains.
xD

The following is just my opinion, take it or leave it, it's up to you :d.
Much better cliff texture waterfall could use more detail, and banks too.
The waterfall looks a little standard and plain, I'm guessing you could add a rock sticking out if you want and more greenery around the area where there is water of course. I think it looks a little too straight and that you could add maybe more "curve" to it.
The banks of the river could be better detailed rather than plain old grass I would imagine, maybe add more texture like a wheat field or something maybe also add a few little rocks. You could also show elevation of certain parts of the bank which would be interesting.
I like the sky except the right hand side, it looks abruptly cut off. The clouds in the valley are much better than your last, a very nice wispy + misty feel to them. I personally feel that for the city and the steps leading up to it, you need to work more on maybe making the steps smaller or something, it looks off in terms of scale to me.Β
Next I feel you need to work on your trees, I will specifically draw attention to the bottom left. I feel that from a fully zoomed out perspective, that the trunks are not defined enough, it looks more like shrubs. Also for the trees on the top of the cliff I thought it was grass until I zoomed in. They are all around the same height, you could maybe add a few smaller ones and larger ones to give an interesting feel. The sakura trees (I'm guessing) also have the same problem with trunks. I reinforce again, you should really try bring out the contrast in the trunks and leaves. I believe it is important anyway. I know leaving a slightly translucent trunk + textures make it easy to hide mistakes, but most of the masterpieces usually have things well defined instead of splashed here and there with random texture overlapping things etc. Remember, time you put in is important, you can't expect to work for 3 hours to get what some people do in 40 hours of painting (Unless you're magical xD).
As for your leaves texture, the trees on the bottom are just a large brushed bit rather than a more defined individual tree kind of texture. Now saying that you have to brush EVERY single one, but you could make an effort (Depending on time of course) to try maybe define many of them and just generally brush the others.Β
It looks like you did make an effort somewhat to do that on the right side, but you could add trunks extending over other trees' leaves to show difference in height of trees, of course that is not needed in every single forest piece, but even if you just have a little difference x 100 for your forest it could make a large difference.Β
I like it overall though, better than your other ones. Please continue to improve, I like to see your progress .

I really appreciate your critiques on my commission.Β
The helpful tips that you gave will be wonderful for a painting artist.
But as this is based off of a concept that I came up with, such details and changes aren't needed.
As this wasn't meant to be super perfect/detailed, more to give a wonderful artist practice and to have my concept come to life.Β
He was basing this off of a VERY crappy map that I made for my group of the area layoutΒ so things in it aren't that detailed or specific.
But great critique nonetheless.Β

Oh thanks! Yes that is the point, to give points to Solfour so he can get better and better
. I like how you think too, make your concepts come to life. I do that lots with sketching too.... in math class haha.
Thank you again , have a nice day

Hmmm yes I see your points! They're very good!! I guess I still have a habit of looking over detail in certain areas like I did when speed painting. I guess I'll have to get out of that If I want to do these large landscapes Again thank you so much for this! Ugh trees... I've really learned to hate them XD I guess I'll just have to keep practicing

Haha yes, I personally suggest lots of tutorials and lots of observing other's work, then you can see lighting etc .
I like to look over detail myself sometimes, sure where the focus isn't you can leave out detail if you want, I personally prefer it not to be like that but it is still fine. However, you always have to remember that it does take ALOT of time up, so fast results ,although everyone really wants them, doesn't really come by well until you get much more experienced and it does take a LOT of time to get experienced so heh :d.

C:Β Β No, it's alright
I like your interpretation of how the area looks.
When you do the separate picture of the ancient tree btw, will you include the great phoenix in it somewhere?
