My most recent work 'Skyler'. This portait was done for a beautiful little girl named Skyler who is diagnosed with SMA. She is 11 years old and owns many of my prints, for her portrait I included bits and pieces of many of those illustrations and created the fairies from my existing little girls in paintings, she is surrounded by all of my artwork in her own portrait!

I will be listing prints of Skyler later this week in my etsy shop and 50% off all the sales of her prints will go to Charity. (That's ALL my profit after covering my supplies)

"This amazing picture created by Jessica is of our daughter, Skyler, who was diagnosed with the incurable and fatal genetic disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Type I. SMA is the #1 "genetic killer" of children under the age of 2 years old, with the majority of children, with Type I, passing before their first birthdays. Skyler was diagnosed at the age of 7.5 weeks old, and, because of her age of onset and severity of symptoms, she was given just months to live. Skyler never sat or held her head up on her own. She lost her swallow at the age of 9 months. Over time, SMA also robbed her of her ability to move (with the exception of her hands, which can move slightly), smile and breathe on her own. SMA has not taken from her, however, her brilliance, her Spirit and her love for Life. On April 12, 2012, Skyler celebrated her 11th birthday. We are truly and completely blessed.

We believe that Skyler speaks with faeries, and Jessica has so perfectly captured Skyler and her love for nature and the faerie realm. In "real" Life, Skyler is trached and vented. In Jessica's reality, Skyler is breathing on her own, holding up her arms and greeting the fae folk and her animal friends. This is magic at its finest

Though it's amazing to escape for a while into this world Jessica has created, the other reality of Life still exists. Children with SMA die every day. A cure is needed - and soon. Jessica has very kindly and generously offered to donate 50% of each "Skyler" purchase to gene therapy research via Miracle for Madison & Friends. Madison is Skyler's friend - and turned 15 her last birthday. She, too, has SMA Type I - just like Skyler. Madison's family has worked tirelessly to raise funds for this promising research. FDA trials are, in this reality, on the horizon. We're so close. When you purchase "Skyler" you should know that 100% of the 50% Jessica donates will go directly to gene therapy research, a combined effort between Dr. Arthur Burghes at Ohio State University and Dr. Brian Kaspar at Nationwide Children's Hospital. It is money that will be very well spent...and could potentially save the lives of children diagnosed with SMA.

On behalf of our entire family, we want to thank Jessica for this amazingly ethereal drawing of our daughter (and for bringing Miss Skyler oodles of smiles!), and for offering to donate a large portion of her sale to SMA research. And we would also like to thank you for purchasing Skyler's likeness, and helping to support kids and families with SMA. We're grateful beyond measure."
