Description Well, here it is, my inevitable first foray into animation. It's something I was planning to do since I decided to move my tumblr work to Flash instead of Photoshop.

Not a bad first attempt, if I do say so myself. It's a bit lacking, but ambition is success's mortal enemy, so it's best if I just start small, complete a few animations like that before moving on to more complex things (instead of just starting at the stuff I really want to do, and getting frustrated and giving up). I pretty much dreamed this up last night, spent about half an hour on the rough, then spent about 4 hours collectively on a three second animation. It makes me respect the fan/real animators out there so much more.

I want to thank the Double Rainboom Crew , and namely *Flamingo1986 for all their hard work, and their release of these really useful Pony Puppets (I could have used my own, but theirs are much more feature rich, and compatible, whereas I still have a little bit to go before reaching that level. Without the hard work of all these guys, I probably wouldn't have been interested at looking into Flash in the first place.

Tell me what you think!

Also, I am aware of the randomly appearing White Dots, they're artifacts of the puppet which I can't get to not-render.

Is it just me or is her tail quite big?
The animation is damn good though!

Pretty darn good! If I had one critique it would be that she seems a bit robotic. It needs a little bit of bounce, if you know what I mean. Other than that, it looks great!

Actually no, this is only very recent, the reason why the next page is taking so long is because I've taken a step back, and am having a small break with it. I feel it's better to break now, and come back to it willingly than to force it and just not want to do it altogether. Believe me, I want to get it done just as much as you want to read it!

i understand, we need to have a clear mind and not force the creativity. It needs time and patience, which you, my friend, has the will to do so. ;D

wel done!
love the sleekness of the animation, and the grin was a nice touch to this. However, when she blinks for the last time, she blinks, than close her eyes, which is a bit odd
and no mean for any trouble, but what about that comic?

Somepony In reply to chrisli75 [2012-11-05 08:31:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I may have overdone it with the eye closing at the end, but having it go from straight open eyes to the little n's as I like to call them, didn't look fluid enough. Maybe I'll delete the frame that closes them completely before the little n's to see if it's better.

As for the comic, I'll quote what I said above: I've taken a step back, and am having a small break with it. I feel it's better to break now, and come back to it willingly than to force it and just not want to do it altogether. Believe me, I want to get it done just as much as you want to read it!

Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks! When I first started it, it was only her looking upwards, but I felt it was just too short to be counted as practice, so I added the little head turn, which made it much longer, but something felt missing, which was fixed as soon as I added the grin!

It looks good, now try to remove those white blotches that appear when she moves and smooth out the outlines and we have perfection!

Somepony In reply to Dreams-hold-Ambition [2012-11-04 18:15:45 +0000 UTC]

Those white splotches are caused by the placeholder handles for certain controls in the puppet. Getting rid of them means getting rid of the entire functionality they bring. It's unfortunate that they stuck around for the gif transition, but I view them as a necessary evil atm. As for the jagged aliasing, that's also a gif transition thing, though I think I may be able to get rid of it by adding a simple background.

Thanks for the compliment though!

It's such a shame that the format didn't take off. As far as I'm aware, very few places support it, and the ones that do, you'd need a special plugin for certain browsers to be able to see it.

ES-NightRunner In reply to Somepony [2012-11-05 15:16:47 +0000 UTC]

did sort of, but very weighted in filesize, so never really flourished, like it really should have, even make some smiley's for forums, but yeh, apng never went anywhere, but still supported by browsers so who knows?

anywho, a nice little read, so you may still get to have the full transparency this pic deserves: [link]
