Terrific artwork. A few questions from a learning artist (if you have the time "Was this your earlier style?" "Before the recent more abstract and fragmented coloring works?" I ask because I just started attempting the abstract coloring like the majority of your pieces here are (not this one). Painting now for 1.5 years so I'm learning fast! Because I love color I have always been envious of this abstract coloring but I needed to paint all this time before I could understand it, and yet from what I can see, anyway, many of your pieces appear as the shape, outline, and depths already existing before you add the multi-color small spots, but it also appears that many other artists who use this style of painting do the opposite and apply the colors in order to form the shapes, depths, and outlines. Yes, some of yours also appear the latter method too -but most seem to favor the former. My first one is titled "Lady 3.1" but I was working on another one in this style today. I feel like I'm starting to get it (although "Lady 3.1" is pretty rough and a learning attempt) but I think I understand it now, just need to practice it. Although I love color in painting, it is strange, and I am still a long way from understanding its effects completely, some are obvious (hot, cold, light, dark, etc.) but with your multi-spot abstract coloring pieces (and all artists who do this work) I notice that the small colorings change the normal relationship of "color" itself -which is why it has taken me longer to get my head around the technique before I could attempt it. ...wheeew, that's a lot of writing -sorry!! I just get the feeling your the type who may respond :] At any rate, thanks!!!! Love your artwork! Cheers! -Todd

Hey, thanks Todd!
Actually this painting was one of the first I created, with loads of strokes, heavier than the one I'm painting at the moment
To be honest I don't think much about what I'm doing I draw the face with a pencil on a canvas and then I just paint because this is literally what I see, my kind of reality I'm not like 'this bit needs to be darker or lighter' it's just how the colours appear to me There's probably more shape and outline than the other painters as I'm a graphic designer I think I really to play around with the shape of the hair etc but for the face itself this is literally what I see. I reckon you should have a look at John Paal Thornton gallery on deviantart, he's extremely kind and might be able to help you with your technique since I'm rubbish at words and can't really explain what or how I'm doing things as it seems really natural to me. Sorry I'm not very helpful :/

Ha. I've been playing with color quite a lot, lately, but this stuff is genuinely exciting me. Good work!

i like this portrait, its very emotive, and there is a feeling that she might be levitating....like she is just lifting up off the ground. nice work.
