I do like the sequence. But I have a few potential suggestions for next time.'
Keep the glass as it was the transform agent. You show it full in the first image, half empty in the second, but it's missing in the final image. Having the new mermaid wondering what was in that drink or pouting that it's finished might fit better than her primping her hair. Same applies for her shades and watch, we see them in the first two elements, they need to be accounted for in the last, either discarded on the ground or pushed up in her hair.
Like how the color of the shorts, became her suit, and then her tail. It really added a sense of connection between the characters.
Another idea would be keeping her new leg tattoo as an element of her new tail color vs having the design lost under her new scales. Again could help bring out individuality as well as linking the sequences.
Overall, an original fun sequence.
