Sorry for the (probably) stupid question, as I'm completely new to this, but is there anything one can do if when the lineart is converted, I get the black shape with white shapes on top, but the white shapes seem to be joined together (like... I'm unable to color hair and skin in different colour, because they seem to have been converted into just one shape?)... can I somehow convert the lineart and then just do the colouring manually, shape by shape?
Thanks in advance for your response (:

How much would you charge for a website logo? I'm building a new game site.
Thanks!

You don't need it anymore, use Live Trace, a default feature.

You can´t use the tutorial in full, just a part of it and a link to the original source.

Hey man. Thanks for the tutorial. Ive been meaning to get around to trying it for a long while. Just recently had a sketch that looked like it would be good for this color style.
My first crack at vector coloring.
Came out pretty well.
You can see it here .
Thanks again,
-Jason

Bueno yo no tengo tabla

I suppose this method works, but you can just vector the thing straight in Photoshop if you like the program more.

Yes, you can but Photoshop is not so powerful for vectors as Illustrator is.

lemontea In reply to SOSFactory [2008-11-14 01:09:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. True. You can always do it in Photoshop and then transfer to AI.
I'm a little put off by using a plug-in to do the vector work -- that's the fun part!

Yes, its what I do with the inking, for me is much funnier and fast drawing everything with my Cintiq and the using the plugin to vectorize... anyway just a personal prefference

Niiiice tutorial! I always thought the stuff you guys did for SOS Factory was produced in photoshop alone. I see now how you work and it definitely works. Slightly different than my methods but I'm too lazy to put together a tutorial so I'll defer to yours. HA! My only differing opinion about Illustrator is that using the "multiply" or other effects work fine for just printing things out on a personal computer or doing web-based graphics. However, if you ever try and output any of these designs to film most separation programs will have problems with the rip files it takes to produce films. In my full-time job I've dealt with hundreds of outside artists and that's one of the biggest misconceptions about Illustrator. They try to use it like Photoshop and it just isn't the same program. I love your work though man. Keep it coming!
