I saw this nifty idea in a crafts magazine of little owls made of cut out felt feathers glued on a styrofoam ball and I immediately thought: "I'll betcha it'l look even better if made with clay." So I decided to put my money where my mouth and here it is

I covered the ball with a layer of clay (for sturdiness among things) and added the feathers which I had made by first making a leaf cane. I rarely work with canes but I just felt it was the way to go for this project. And as I was left with 5 feathers and enough scrap clay of the belly colour I also ended up with the little flower (adorned with pearls). I'm thinking about adding a brooch-pin on the back or perhaps a hair-pin. I think it's pretty enough to do something with it.

There are a few things I feel I could have done a bit better or neater, but for a first try-out I'm pretty pleased with it. This little critter (about the size of a tennis ball) may happily hoot at a nice spot in my room somewhere
