Description I felt the previous one was so effective that I decided to do another, but in more natural colours. I ended up with so many feathers that I could do 2 so I figured why not. To keep it interesting I experimented with an open beak and I rather like it. Cheerful looking guy isn't it And I think they both say : "Take me home with you!"

The 2 beads turned earrings were done with sticking 4 feathers on a ball of scrap clay and rolling it in my hands till the seams were smooth.

I think open beak looks even cuter! I much prefer it to the other, rather emotionless, version.

I wouldn't say the other one was emotionless but rather perpetually surprised

But yeah, the open beak does give the critter a very happy look, it's a keeper (the look that is, for future critters in this style).

Love those feathers ^^ now that I know a little bit about how you make them I really appreciate all the time you invest in these

I started out with Skinner blends, so one colour smoothly to another with the aid of the pasta machine, like you had to do for your projects. The lines in the feathers is a matter of cutting the rolled up blend in strategic places and placing strips of clay between the halves. You may have to lengthen/thin the cane to get the desired size but after that the easy and fun part begins; slicing of the feathers of the cane, squishing them a bit around the edges to soften them, and then sticking them on the ball in a roof tile pattern. When I saw the example with the felt feathers I just knew that making cane feathers would give a great result
