I certainly have felt that way about backgrounds, but I figure if I know how to actually do them well, I won't hate doing them so much! ...so that's why I'm practicing now!

The sky and the water xD; But my biggest problem is composition-wise. It's lacking something in the left part of the picture and well it's bugging me XD;

Hmm...For the water, perhaps some stones with some air gushing might help? 
But for the sky, I think you put enough work into it~ Just the water I think needs more focusing x3

nah the trees are part of the background itself so it doesn't add anything to the composition, it actually blend into the background =/ I wanted to add another character but then I didn't want to change the focus XD Oh well live and learn.
