spoilery commentary but........

i like to think both charizard and abra were Also fed up with the player towards the end.
abra is more obvious; they were used as a tool to obtain mew and later as a flash user when mewl refused. the player thought very little of abra.
meanwhile charizard was forced to take the brunt of every battle, no matter how tired they may have been. they often fainted due to the player's careless habits. i also don't imagine charizard approved of mewl and abra's treatment.
i think charizard and abra were in sync with mewl's hatred, which is why they both fled. they knew mewl wanted to prove themself and left them to do it alone.
