Description
I saw this in the Group Description of #Depression-victims and asked if I could make it into a Stamp, and was given permission to do so.For
GIMP 2.6.11
Edit:
If you have something to say, please limit it to critique on the stamp itself, not the message behind it. I have no associating with the Group, I simply thought it was a nice statement and converted it into a stamp.

I like this, it says a lot more than the words on the stamp, and I can relate to it personally.
I do the same thing with images.

Fuck you. You have no clue. You join a "victims" club, you make a crappy ass stamp thinking this is helping people, and you have no fucking clue what goes on in 'real' depressed victim's heads. Seriously, you're not helping anyone but little kids egos having crappy information about depression. It's a fucking illness. Get it right.

Have to say... I pretty much agree. I'm a psychologist and depression is now the new 'hip' thing. It's terrible. Seriously. One person I used work with has a loving parents, holidays (Barcelona, Rome, Italy and Spain in the few months she was with us), goes to a £10,000 a year boarding school, with her horse... And just tells me how rubbish and shitty her life is. Such a waste of time. Oh and nothing medically wrong with her.
Now I work with soldiers with PTSD. Actual heros. I work with people who are missing limbs, have had their faces wrecked. They never complain. They are they.... I don't have the words.... they are inspiring.
People with real depression aren't to be blamed for the 'victim's club', it's all the tag along 'oh I feel down today so I'm DEPRESSED, SOBSOBSOB. It's annoying. It's like having a mole and telling everyone you have cancer.

I wouldn't put this in those words, but I agree with you. Depression doesn't need to be trigger, there doesn't need to be any reason behind it. It's an illness, a chemical imbalance in the brain. This stamp seems to be perpetuating the idea that depression and feeling sad or the same thing.

How do you know that SparkLum doesn't suffer from depression? Can you see inside his head? Surely if it has helped at least one person who suffers from depression feel a little more strength or inspiration, then thats a good thing?

japanerd1 In reply to OldCatJack [2011-02-23 22:59:02 +0000 UTC]
you were being an ass about it though, that's my point. It is a very sensitive topic because depression has (obviously) led to suicide, if depression isn't a sensitive topic to you, perhaps you will feel a little more sympathetic to those who lost loved ones due to depression.

Not my problem, sugar. If they died then they didn't take their damn pills. People die every day, by a chemical imbalance in their brain, an accident, murder, ect.
And you only think I'm an ass because your offended. It's mighty fine to turn off your computer and walk away.

It's clear from all your posting you know nothing about depression and are merely spouting garbage. Depression isn't like regular physical illnesses. It isn't something that magically disappears if you cram enough pills down someone's mouth.

You told someone who said they had Depression to take pills and acted like that should be enough to make them better. Pills are the solution for physical illnesses. You treated Depression as if it was a physical illness. Depression is something that requires both mental and physical treatment.

OldCatJack In reply to Thomas-T-Cat [2011-02-24 20:29:58 +0000 UTC]
Uhhhh, no. It's a chemical imbalance inside the brain. You take pills for that. Lol you really don't understand the situation.

Thomas-T-Cat In reply to OldCatJack [2011-02-24 21:31:42 +0000 UTC]
From what I've gathered from all your responses, I think it's safe to say I know more about Depression than you do. Not only have I experienced it before but I've actually read up and studied on the subject. You appear to be speaking merely from a biased point of view (plus you sound like one of those people who places a little too much trust in those horribly misleading medical ads on TV). Yes, the most well held theory as to the cause of Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, but it is not considered the only cause. The problem with your argument, and your reasoning as a whole, is that you are treating Depression as if it is a very simple and easy to treat illness. Again I will re-iterate that Depression is not like other illnesses. It is not something that can simply be wished way by a magic pill. The brain is a very complex organ and illnesses that affect it tend to be just as complex.

You're reading pixels on a computer. Funny thing is, you take me seriously. Take a breather, turn off your computer, and go to a therapist, k? You'll be okay, honey.
You're not changing anyone's mind.

Why would I need a therapist? And why would you ruin what was turning out to be a perfectly fine srs bizness internet fight? I was having fun pulling part your troll posts while you had the enjoyment of continuing to troll. Why would you now go and ruin that? Do you no longer love me or are have you *gasp* moved on and are trolling others now?

"You're depressed? Oh okay, now get back to work. "
Everyone deserves to be happy, right?

Well, I would write a critique, except for the all the stuff I have to do. So I'll just write a really short here.
1. I like the dark purple in the background, and the contrasting white of the words so they're easy to read.
2. But I don't like how you put emphasis on certain words the probably didn't really need to be emphasized. Like the whole thing is in italics except for depression and weak on the first half, but then on the second half 'for' might/should have been italicized. In my personal opinion, of course. ^^
3. Finally, I like the quote, but is it supposed to use Depression twice? I'm guessing it is, so the reader can pick up on the stamp no matter if they catch it on the first half or second. Cause it'll still make sense. But maybe the quote should read, 'Depression is not because you are weak, but because you've been strong for too long.'
4. Oops! Forgot about this. The contractions. You made 'you have' you've, but you didn't make 'you are' you're. Did you not want to? I could understand why, though.
And now I'm thinking that you couldn't change the quote in anyway because you were just making a stamp, which means you should ignore most of this message...
But I do like the quote, and the message it's sending!
So, good job on your stamp! xD
