Description
A Martian from The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells.“The peculiar V-shaped mouth with its pointed upper lip, the absence of brow ridges, the absence of a chin beneath the wedgelike lower lip, the incessant quivering of this mouth, the Gorgon groups of tentacles, the tumultuous breathing of the lungs in a strange atmosphere, the evident heaviness and painfulness of movement due to the greater gravitational energy of the earth—above all, the extraordinary intensity of the immense eyes—were at once vital, intense, inhuman, crippled and monstrous. There was something fungoid in the oily brown skin, something in the clumsy deliberation of the tedious movements unspeakably nasty. Even at this first encounter, this first glimpse, I was overcome with disgust and dread.”
“They were, I now saw, the most unearthly creatures it is possible to conceive. They were huge round bodies—or, rather, heads—about four feet in diameter, each body having in front of it a face. This face had no nostrils—indeed, the Martians do not seem to have had any sense of smell, but it had a pair of very large dark-coloured eyes, and just beneath this a kind of fleshy beak. In the back of this head or body—I scarcely know how to speak of it—was the single tight tympanic surface, since known to be anatomically an ear, though it must have been almost useless in our dense air. In a group round the mouth were sixteen slender, almost whiplike tentacles, arranged in two bunches of eight each.”

Wonder what these would look like standing upright in Martian gravity...

I often wondered how they fed prior to needing blood transfusions. And why exactly they started using them.

Awww... it's adorable! Definitely reminiscent of the description. In all honesty it's kind of hard to make the Martian look creepy when following the description closely. This one is so bulbous, and I love that you included the mouth dripping with saliva. The size comparison... looks about right. They're described as bear-sized, and that seems about right.
Excellent work. Cute Martian.

Yeah, being cute doesn't have to mean harmless. Look at owls, cats, and tarsiers, they have round eyes, round foreheads, and a very baby-like appearance, but are deadly predators. I wonder what these martian's basal ancestor would be like. Probably similar to bees or ants. They originally fed upon alien fruit and alien flowers, but transitoned to blood. They selected humans due to our sugary blood and ability to consume large quantities of chocolate and sweets, making us a good candidate for nourishment.

It's a fan name for the Martians from H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. They were never given their own name in the original book, and it's a little awkward to constantly refer to them as "Martians from War of the Worlds" or something like that.
The name "Sarmak" first appeared in War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches (1996) and it's become popular in fan articles and such as the Barsoomian name for the creatures.
