Description
This is what Tails is all about, flying around by his butt in a rather cutesy fashion! Wide eyed and innocent (although I'll admit he's kinda staring blankly here) He follows Sonic everywhere, as opposed to bossing him around like some know-it-all.I was sorely dissapointed in Tails flying ability in Sonic:Heroes, how is he supposed to fly high if there's an invisible WALL he seems to hit upwards... and of course he can only go SO far forward before he can't do anything
Note the Sonic 3 style protruding mouthpiece (or snout or whatever), the belt/buckles on his gloves and shoes, the old school shoes themselves, and the 'copter blade spin behind him.
I very much dislike the fact that the advance games let you see Tails's tails spinning. It's unrealistic that his tails spinning that slow would let him fly! (lets not get into the impossibility of his flying at all)
anyway, this picture is an homage to the Tails I always adored! Fly on little guy... fly on

That whole "OH TAILZ IS MECHANIC HE FLIZ BY TORNADO" is really stupid and I'm SICK of seeing it! He is NOT meant to use that STUPID plane every chance he gets, he is MEANT to FLY in a NATURAL WAY and actually HELP Sonic instead of be annoying and all this crap! His voice was so annoying in Heroes, too, and he's gotten worse after Sonic Adventure, SA2b SUCKED because they completely stripped him of his purpose! That was a HUUUUGE letdown for me!
And yeah, I don't understand exactly how he flies but I know you'd never be able to see his tails. Maybe he has a special way of spinning them or something. o.o;

NP, I hate it that he's using electronics now, it's so ridiculous and annoying. And since WHEN do Tails fans play a game to control a big heavy mech and can't even junp an inch off the ground? Like they couldn't just give Eggman a friggin jetpack and Tails a gun, they HAD to screw up the one character I play Sonic for.

Well, it really took away from the point of being Tails, I think...
Actually, SEGA did well with Knuckles, improving on his special abilities like punching and adding things to use his claws for. I was really disappointed when they didn't improve on Tails' flying and made him take a different track altogether. Know what I'm saying?
But yeah, I'll say that Tails aside, the others had better gameplay...

YES, thank you. I really don't like the way Nintendo has been handling Tails lately (GASP, BLASPHEMY, I MIGHT NOT LIKE THE DEAL THAT EVERYONE ELSE LIKES

Aw no. They actually let you see his tails spinning? Thats just not right. ;_; Your tails really does look cute and innocent. ^_^ To me, his face looks like his eyes are happily fixed on something(like he sees Sonic coming over to him or something..I dont know LOL). Great drawing~ ^_^

Good job! Hey, just to make sure, I'm not the only one who knows that tails isn't just a fox with two tails, right? He's an adolecent Yoko (a japanese fox monster with the ability to make spirit flames). When he grows up, he should have a total of nine tails (yes, just like the pokemon).

in any case, yeah I've heard lotsa times that he's some kinda fox monster/ghost/whatever... fox that'll get 9 tails eventually ^_^()

Well, technicaly he is a kitsune, but all kitsune means is fox,
Kitsune = Fox
Yoko = demon/fire fox
Um... I think that Ujinaka (sp?), the guy behind sonic actually said that he was an immature yoko. He's not just weird.... at least not by magical monster creature standards.

Actually, that'd be a little weird... I mean, yeah, it'd be totally awesome for that to happen and I think maybe they should do that but... I dunno, can you imagine trying to fly with nine of those things? Maybe 5 would be enough... Still, tossing around blue flames would be pretty sweet. Like, him having flames for tailtips or fire wings or something. Still, I like to think of it as a miracle of science and not so much a freak but a blessing of nature. I could go either way since mythology fascinates me, especially with fox spirits.
This is a bit off-topic but... What other kinds of fox spirits are there?... I could draw Tails as one. XD

I don't know anything about them, but there is the pipe fox spirit. They're kinda fuzzy and tube shaped I guess? lol you might wanna do a little research first.

Actually, his name was never meant to be Tails, his name was a pun of the speed on Sonic and was originally the winner of a contest for Sonic's sidekick, and I like his original name much better, it just sounds kinda steriotypical to call him Tails, and also makes Sonic sound like an idiot or something...

Maybe his Tails are spinning so fast that the afterimages appear slow--ever stare at a ceiling fan or a desk fan as it goes? Sorta like that...
But that aside, I do like the picture--it's very representative of pre-SA art styles. Though you're right, he is kinda staring blankly...

You make a good point, but I doubt Sonic Team were thinking that logically when coming up with the Sonic Advance sprite sheets.

Actually... No, it doesn't look like that. Ever see the beginning of Soic Adventure? That would be afterimage effect because it's still blurry but you really can see them spinning, they're just spinning to slowly. A better example is Sonic Heroes even though that game sucks. XD The beginning cutscene shows a good example.
