Description Lawful Good: Kaidan Alenko: Pretty nice guy and also a dedicated Alliance soldier. Becomes Lawful Neutral in the sequels if he lives that long, but with the right care and influence can become Lawful Good again.

Neutral Good: James Vega: While technically an Alliance soldier, he does have a rebellious streak.

Chaotic Good: Liara T'Soni: Like Garrus, she becomes a lot more brutal and ruthless in Mass Effect 2, and as an information broker (and then future Shadow Broker) she operates pretty comfortably outside of any established authority or system of government.

Lawful Neutral: Admiral Shala'Ran Vas Tonbay: A fairly indecisive Quarian admiral who, for all of her authority seems very wishy-washy and not very committed to one side or the other.

True Neutral: Urz: Being a Varren, his animal-level intelligence precludes any greater level of moral agency and thus, any ability to be any other alignment.

Chaotic Neutral: Javik: When first revived, Javik makes it clear that he will do whatever it takes to stop the Reapers. As it stands he's pretty darn ruthless and while never quite evil in full, he does come close to it at times, and also has no use for any kind of rules that would tie him down in his quest for vengeance against the Reapers. Fortunately under Paragon Shepard's influence he can mellow out a bit.

Lawful Evil: Admiral Oleg Petrovsky: A dedicated, high-ranked member of Cerberus. Now while Miranda fits that description too and is not evil, the difference is that Petrovsky took over Omega, established a strong (and tyrannical) Cerberus presence there, AND was also sending people to Henry Lawson's Husk facility on Horizon. So his actions comes out as being much worse, and between that and his lack of a sympathetic backstory like Miranda's I'd say he's ultimately this, even if he does also have some measure of honor and affability.

Neutral Evil: Maya Brooks: A callous, manipulative, sadistic, and back-stabbing femme fatale who is basically the "Anti-Miranda", being what Miranda Lawson's haters think of Miranda as being. In fact, I suspect that was the point; throwing the Miranda-haters a bone by giving them a character who is everything they think Miranda is.

Chaotic Evil: Jack: Pre-Character Development Jack is a homicidal maniac and also a sadistic, mean-spirited, misanthropic bully who delights in random destruction and violence and basically hates everyone and everything. Yes, she has a sympathetic reason for being this way, but reasons are not the same as excuses, and Jack's behavior is not excused. She can be made to become better though.

It makes sense for Liara T'Soni to stand as Chaotic Good in ME2, but what about her stance in both ME1 and ME3 since she doesn't appear to be so chaotic

Thoughts? I never did get opinions on these...

We've talked about some of these before, based on where they were in your expanded chart. Having said that, it would have been interesting to see this by game. One of the problems with some Mass Effect characters is how they shift over games. For example, for ME2, I would agree with your chart 4 that Liara is chaotic good (or maybe even chaotic neutral - she's unconcerned about putting people at risk and she's not even sure Feron is alive). But in ME1, I would argue that she's neutral or lawful. Likewise, by ME3, she's not chaotic, but firmly in the lawful neutral camp. Jack falls into this category as well. This is the right position for ME2, but not for ME3. Jack is also more lawful neutral in ME3.

Nah, she's Chaotic Good. Liara is also solidly Good in ME 3.

But yes, you are correct that the alignments do change over time; but that's why I try to note as much in my little descriptions/justifications for each one.

No. In ME2, Liara's chaotic neutral. Shepard even calls her out on it if you hit all the prompts after Vasir dies. I like Liara (favorite ME NPC), but she's living on the edge in ME2. By the end of the Shadowbroker DLC, even she realizes what she had become.

Well, Paragon Shepard questions some of ME 2 Garrus' decisions as well, and general consensus is that he's still CG. I think it's more that Liara is CG on the verge of plummeting into CN, and Paragon Shepard is doing what he/she does with Garrus; trying to keep her in one and not the other.

But Robin Hood leads the Merry Men and actively works against the law. Jacob is always under authority (it's clear Brynn leads the group in ME3). Plus, Jacob does come back to the Alliance when the scientists come back to help with the Crucible. He doesn't fight, choosing instead to care for the scientists' children so the scientists could focus on the Crucible. But he's back in the fold (at least that's how I interpreted the events).

Ah. Well, I don't remember him explicitly rejoining the Alliance, but then it has been a while since I last played any of the ME games.

As for Robin Hood, true he's the leader, but there's still "structure" in his group, and he is also usually depicted as respecting the authority of King Richard I. So there is that.

Also, your reply is for the wrong comment. XD
