Description
This was my entry for the Temeraire Fanart Contest. It suffered from a lack of planning and six months later I can't really say I'm pleased with it, but it took a long time and I wouldn't be doing it justice if I didn't include it here.Edit: This scene is taken from a conversation in Throne of Jade, which was later elaborated on here: [link]
Further Edit: I placed as a runner-up in the contest! My work, as well as that of the other winners, will be published later this year, if all goes well.

I like to say that this picture is correct when it comes to the fact that Temeraire isn't having any horns, because there isn't any description about any horns in the book. (A lot of other dragons are described to have horns, then it's also a reference picture in the American pocket book from 2006 (Page 346))
And he doesn't have any tendrils at the moment, mostly because he is described to get them later on, so this illustration could be before that.
I mostly just reflect on the thought that most illustrations of Temeraire I have seen is portraying him whit horns.
And I don't take their size into mind, because I don't really care. (Because it's fantasy!)
But if I would take that into consideration then we can see that Temeraire is about 120 meters in length. (Based on some anatomical studies I have done) And that would be rather unpractical to put on a boat, when considering that the boats of the time were around 60 meters.
I'm not going to reflect more on this situation, because, It's still just fantasy. (Just bringing this up if it was this that you thought about)

The dragon transports are of course bigger. One could assume that the Reliant was about 60 metres, but it would be ridiculous to think that also the dragon transports would be so small, especially With the description of the HMS Allegiance "dwarfing" the other decent-sized ships.

Quick note, though, when they say 120 metres, aren't they referring to the full length of his body; neck and tail included? If so, presumably he coils them around himself, and takes up less space? The ships would still need to be a bit bigger, though...

The dragons were trying to get some food outside of their normal mealtime, so they were trying to be sneaky and use the gate lol

This is mentioned in Throne of Jade, earlier on. Temeraire is a bit miffed because Laurence can't contain himself after he tells his captain about it and starts laughing. One of my favorite scenes by far.
