Spring's first life bringing breath had just entered the snow ridden forest, bringing with it the first wind of the new age, awakening the first season’s vessel from its deep slumber. Hidden away beneath the solid ice of the forest's greatest lake, the vessel of spring stirs into consciousness and rides the underwater current towards the frosted surface of the water. In an instant the dead silence of the area breaks, along with the surface of the ice, as the Springfallen Deer emerges from its watery prison. Great tangles of water moss and algae cling to its fur and antlers, masking the beast’s unbridled beauty for a brief period of time, before it is shaken away from deer's gleaming opal coat and rainbow antlers. Great puffs of steam flow forth rapidly from the animals nostrils as it takes in the scent of the chilled winter air, the air that it was preparing to rid the forest of.
Icy blue eyes glance from place to place for a short expanse of time as the deer takes in its surroundings, searching for the best path in which it will run; the best path it can use to spread the warmth of spring throughout the forest. That path is chosen quickly, and in an instant the deer springs into action, darting through the woodland at speeds beyond human comprehension! Everything the deer passes becomes charged with the powers of the spring! Grasses grow and emerge from the rapidly melting ice on the forest floor! Flowers sprout out of the ground, and bloom openly as the first light of the sun emerges from the clouds as if to watch the cycle of life begin anew! Once leafless trees are suddenly sent into blossom, adding a rich floral sent to the forests natural air and spreading feather soft petals across the surface of the landscape!
Yes, the Springfallen Deer has returned from the depths of its watery prison, and with it so too has spring returned to the forest. Across every wetland, through every meadow, across every river the deer runs; scaling even the steepest of mountain cliffs in order to spread the life of spring throughout its homeland. Nothing stands in the beast’s path as it charges onward, nothing at all; until it sets foot on the darkened soils of its home's tallest mountain. Almost immediately after setting foot on the black mountain soils the deer stops in confusion, and twists its head to peer backwards at its path, only to find that the plants refused to grow atop the mountain in which it stood. Awkwardly, the deer stomps a single hoof into the soil and peers down to watch as a few blades of grass struggle to grow, only to witness those few shreds of green wither and die as if they had been burned by some unseen flame!
At that moment the deer realizes that something has changed in the mountain during the arrival of winter, and with a single snort of silent rage it dares to climb towards the mountains head in search of the source of that change. Higher and higher the deer climbed, reaching heights in which no natural born man could hope to survive, finding that the closer it got to the mountains head, the more ominous the land around it seemed to grow. When at last it reaches the top of the mountain, the deer finds that some great force had struck the mountains head, creating a deep crater with walls so treacherous that even the bravest and strongest of men would not dare to climb! Yet the Springfallen Deer was unlike man, and so it did dare to work its way down into the crater in search of whatever it was that had disturbed the peace of its home. With every step the deer took, great walls of rock crumbled into dust, causing it to slip and slide downwards towards the craters center, until at last it came across what it had been looking for.
Atop the center point of the crater there stood a giant statue of stone; stone that appeared to have been formed through the cooling of molten rock. Hesitantly, the deer approaches to statue to inspect it, discovering that it was shaped somewhat like a sleeping bird; a bird whose head was tucked downwards towards its chest. Growing more suspicious of the statue, the deer dares to step closer to it, lifting its face so that it could stare into the dead eyes of the stone that stood before it. Closer and closer the deer’s face drifted to that of the statues stony head, until there came a point in which its nose came into feather light contact with that of the statue. In an instant the statue sprang to life, as if it had been awakened by the nearly insensible touch of the deer's nose! The stone of the statue crumbles into dust, cascading onto the stony floor, revealing the red hot molten body of the beast known only as the Pyre Bird!
In a state of panic the deer turns and runs towards the walls of the crater, struggling to climb out of the giant hole as the Pyre Bird wildly flails its fiery wings and cries out in utmost rage! Wall after wall of stone crumbles under the weight of the deer, causing it to leap from ledge to ledge as it attempts to escape the danger it has fallen into! Alas, it is far too late for the deer to escape the situation unscathed, for its struggling frame has caught the sights of the angry Pyre Bird! In an instant the bird folds its molten wings and dives towards the deer’s frame, only to smash into the edge of the crater wall just as the deer leaps out of the giant hole! The deer does not pause to catch its breath before it sprints back into the forest, just as there is no hesitation within the Pyre Bird's heart as it rises out of the mountain to chase the deer down, setting the woodlands aflame as it flew through the forest!
All throughout the wood the Bird chases the terrified deer, setting everything aflame and reducing rivers to steam as it pursues its prey! In the end not even the deer's speed can save it from the anger of the Pyre Bird, for the bird has set fire to every possible route of escape! At last the bird traps the deer on the edge of a mountain cliff, and for a moment it watches as its prey bolts in circles in search of escape, before the deer falls still and accepts its demise! There is no mercy hinted behind the birds movements as its giant molten body ascends onto the frame of the Springfallen Deer, there is only a loud screech of victory from the predator, and a final cry of fear from the prey. With its vicious task completed the Pyre Bird flies out of the massive fire it has created, and returns to its hiding place within the mountain, this time burying itself deep inside the core of that mountain so as to not be disturbed again.
The source of the flames now gone, the first rain of spring is free to pour down onto the burning and dying forest, dousing the fires and leaving the aftermath of the bird’s wrath out in the open for all to see. Nothing survived the flames; the only remnants of the forest are the charred and smoking husks of the trees. The once lush forest has been reduced to nothing but piles of smoking ash surrounding a few struggling bodies of murky waters. As if to mourn the forests demise, the winds of spring start to gently move across the surface of the woodlands ashes, scattering pile after pile of ash as if in search of a dearly departed friend. After a while the wind seems to find what it has been searching for beneath the ashes, as it finds a small, trembling body hidden underneath a mound of ash near a small and murky lake. The body the wind has uncovered is that of the Springfallen Deer. With its forest destroyed the deer's body has been reduced to little more than that of a fawn.
A fawn made of ash and rainwater, a fawn whose body slowly falls apart and flies away with each shifting of the wind. A fawn who now knows only fear and pain as it stares wearily up into sky, as the sun starts peeking out from behind the clouds once more to sadly peer down at the destruction. Again the breath of spring kicks up in hopes of getting the fawn on its feet, blowing first at its rear and then at its face, unintentionally carrying away fragments of the beast’s ashen body. This continues on for hours before the fawn manages to pull itself onto its feet, its legs shaky and weak as it attempts to take a step towards the lake. Yet the wind will not allow the fawn to approach its lake, as it sends a ruff gust towards the beast’s front, sending it stumbling backwards. This continues as well, before the fawn turns and limps away from its lake in defeat, its head held low from sadness.
Again the rains of spring descend onto the scene, this time landing gently on the surface of the lands as if to comfort the fawn. The rainwaters ran across the fawn's body, and across its face, before dripping down to mix into the ashen soil beneath the animal's body. The air grew chilled once more, just as it had been when the fawn had emerged from the depths of the lake as a deer, and as the fawn breathed weakly steam emerged from its nostrils once again. Then the rain stops, allowing the wind to urge the fawn into moving once more; but alas, the fawn will not move. So the wind dies down as well, leaving the fawn standing alone in the middle of an ashen forest; alone to mourn over its own losses. Tears of agony well in the fawn's dull, pain ridden eyes. The tears soon overflow and run down its cheeks; down its snout onto its nose before falling onto the forest floor.
Blankly the fawn stares downwards at the forest floor, watching as its tears of regret land in the ashes of its once magnificent home, and it watches something unexpected come into place. A single white flower suddenly grows, followed by another, after another, until a patch of flowers envelopes the area in which the fawn stands. As if on cue, both the rain and the wind start up, this time moving stronger than ever in order to force the fawn to run. Not to move, to run! Faster and faster the fawn was forced to run on its weak legs in order to prevent itself from falling, until at last if was sprinting full force, just as it had been when it first emerged from the depths of the frozen lake! As it ran the waters from the pouring rains flowed and dripped off of its body, only to be carried off by the wind and dropped somewhere ahead, bringing new life to the dead forest.
Slowly but surely the forest grew behind the fawn as it ran from the wind, until the woodlands, and the Springfallen Deer, were returned to their proper state...

This is lovely~! It remind me of one of the scenes from Fantasia, where the spring goddess brings life to the forest only to have a horrible fire demon destroy it! But I like this interpretation better, the Sprinfallen Deer sounds like a very interesting and awe inspiring creature, I feel bad that he was reduced to such a frail state...

I don't remember anything like that in Fantasia... I remember the flying horses and the dinosaurs, and the demon- not the Spring Goddess...
Anyways, yes- I picture the deer as a lovely creature.

It was in the Fantasia 2000 remake, it's called the Firebird Suite. Actually, if you've never seen it and wrote this, I'm starting to think you've got precognitive powers or something o.o
Really, look it up and you'll see just how eerily similar your work and that scene are! 8D
