Once upon a time, there lived a poor beggar woman. She had no home, no family, and she was very lonely. Most days she was seen out in the streets begging for food or money, and most nights she could be found in a dark alleyway struggling to stay alive out in the cold. Due to the way she was forced to live she was very thin and sickly, and her skin had turned gray from spending to many nights out in the cold. Since she looked as bad as she did very few people bothered to give her any sympathy; most of the people she came into contact with treated her like a stray dog, and they kicked or punched her mercilessly whenever they felt the urge to. Yet despite all of the cruel ways she had been treated, despite her obvious sickness, she was a very kind and gentle woman. She was always willing to lend a hand to others in need of her assistance, she was not greedy and was willing to share anything she could claim as her own. She never tried to steal from anyone, not even the dogs, who always seemed to have something to eat held tightly in their jaws. In all honestly she was probably the most good hearted woman anyone could ever find; the only issue with that was, nobody ever bothered to seek her out.

Well, all of that changed when she found a wilted flower in an old pot lying abandoned out in the streets. Now there was nothing special about this flower; it was small and frail looking, probably to far dead to save, and its petals were a dull purple color. Yet for some odd reason the woman just couldn't help but want to take care of it; and so she did. For weeks she carried it around with her while she begged for food, and she protected it from the wind each night as she tried to fall asleep. She gave the flower part of whatever water she could find, and mixed dead leaves into the soil inside its pot to keep its roots healthy. She kept it in the sun when the skies were clear, and kept it out of the rain when the skies grew cold. Before long the small wilted purple flower had grown into a large and beautiful flower that would have been the envy of any houseplant. The woman's care had brought the little flower back to life, but by caring for the flower she had paid the ultimate price. She had grown thinner and weaker during each moment she had spent tending to the flower, and just as the little plant reached the prime of its health, the woman reached the limit of her lifespan. In the end she had given everything she could to save the flower, and she knew not why she had felt the need to do so, but she knew that she did not regret her actions.

She was happy that she had saved the flower, and she was glad that she had been able to see its true beauty before she was forced to pass away. She loved that flower, and there is no price to pay that is to great, for knowing the joys that come with it. So, during what she knew would be her final moments of life the woman picked up her beloved flower, and placed a gentle kiss atop its petals, before falling onto the cold ground into a deadly sleep. Rapidly her life began to leave her frame; her body grew colder by the moment and her breaths became slower and slower, but just before her spirit could ascend to the heavens, something magical happened. Out of blue a blinding white light erupted from the flower, it cloaked the dying woman with its glow and flew high into the air, before disappearing into the horizon. To this day no one knows what became of the woman and her flower, but there is a rumor that many people have taken to be true. People say that the flower was really a magical prince who had been cursed by a evil witch, and that the power of the woman's love had broken his curse and allowed him to return to his natural form. They say that the white light that had enveloped the woman had been the prince's magic, and that the prince had flown her back to his castle to be cared for.

From there the rumor claims that the prince himself nursed the woman back to health, and that as soon as she was well again the two were wed, and that they have lived together in their castle for many long and happy years. Many people believe that the woman and the prince have had children, and that they still live happily in their castle, and some say that they know where that castle is hidden. Some say that the castle can be found floating in the sky atop the clouds, and that the prince is in fact the ruler of the cloud kingdom, but few believe that that is the truth. As for the witch that had cursed the prince, it is said that as soon as the prince's curse was broken the witch herself was transformed into a flower, and that she was eaten by wild goat. That is the story of the wilted flower who turned out to be a magic prince; so the next time you find a dead plant out in the streets, take care of it. If your lucky, you'll find yourself being whisked away by the love of your life.
