Description "You're right, the view IS better from up here."

Though there were some definite Jlaire moments in the series finale, I just can't get enough of these two!

Also...you take away that eclipse armor, and Jim's legs are stillΒ really skinny.
YOU CAN'T FOOL ME AGAIN DREAMWORKS!!!

How romantic these two kids.

One of the creators said he could potentially take it off.
He was just in such emotional turmoil that the armor refused to deactivate.
Or something along those lines.

Oh, thank goodness! It makes sense that his emotions would prevent the armor from deactivating before the Battle of Endless Night. I was worried the Amulet, like the Shadow Staff, no longer recognized Troll Jim as James Lake Jr. and would no longer obey him.

That would be so sad! Not only would Merlin take his life away, he'd make it so the amulet wouldn't respond to Jim anymore

With Merlin, I wouldn't put anything past him. He uses everyone (we still don't have the full story behind why Morgana's left hand was used to make the Amulet), and doesn't care about the people who die for his causes. He would've let everyone in Arcadia die just to get his magic back from Morgana. And look how well that turned out!

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-08-30 23:54:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm still wary of him. Though I can't say Morgana is completely in the clear either. She did support the bringing of the Eternal Night and the release of the most ferocious man-eating troll on the world. Also she turned a noble troll warrior into her Trollhunter-killing puppet.

But yeah, Merlin's an a-hole and the world probably could've been saved without his meddling.

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-08-31 01:52:20 +0000 UTC]

But would Angor Rot have gone to Morgana for help protecting his village from Gunmar's war if Merlin had done his job & stopped Gunmar himself? And what about Merlin's potion to turn Jim into a half-Troll? He seemed to know exactly what he needed and how precisely it would work. And everyone thought Jim was a Changeling at first until Strickler, a real Changeling, proved otherwise. Methinks Merlin may have had a hand in the experiments that eventually led to the Changelings.

And the world was saved in spite of his meddling, because the old fart didn't accomplish diddly squat in the finale! Dude spends every episode he's in whining that Jim doesn't have what it takes to defeat Gunmar, and he spends the Eternal Night feeling sorry for himself while his dead Trollhunters protect his sorry ass.

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-08-31 22:59:34 +0000 UTC]

Hm. I can't say Merlin did or didn't have a hand in the changeling experiments, but if he did, it could have been when Morgana was still his apprentice. It was always in my mind that Morgana was the one responsible for the creation of changelings, but I could be wrong.

The only thing that Merlin did to contribute was, sadly, turning Jim into a troll. Other than that, he was just a meat-shield for a while before ARRRGH!!! went and got the other Trollhunters.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-08-31 23:07:12 +0000 UTC]

Morgana was confirmed as the creator of the Changelings in the show. The Janus Order worshipped her as a god, taking orders from her before deferring to Gunmar. Which may be part of why Morgana was willing to sacrifice the Gumm-Gumms and get rid of Gunmar once Merlin was defeated - most women don't take it too well when their children are slaughtered.

But the Troll Jim plan almost backfired. Think of how emotionally destroyed Troll Jim was on the roof of the school. He would've kept running away if Blinky hadn't arrived with the "magnificent son" speech and some much-needed hugs. For all of Merlin's dissing of Blinky, he was the only one who could get through to Troll Jim.

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-08-31 23:13:26 +0000 UTC]

I guess that just begs the question of why she brought the Eternal Night. If it wasn't for Gunmar and his feasting on the humans, what purpose did it serve for her? Perhaps that'll be answered later, but it seems like there's more to it and her feud with Merlin than just blocking out the sun for eternity.

I think that's another reason I really distrust Merlin. He was just such a jerk to everyone including Toby, Blinky, Strickler, etc. Except for when he hit on Claire, which was really weird....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-09-01 02:46:24 +0000 UTC]

I think the bigger question is why Morgana and Merlin cared about Trolls at all. Neither one seems to actually care about them - they just use them for whatever task is at hand (defeating each other). But why Trolls? Why not human tribes?

Merlin's such a pervert. I wouldn't be surprised if part of his reason for turning Jim into a half Troll was to eliminate the competition for Claire. In the mythos, he hit on this poor girl named Nimue who got rid of him by asking him to teach her everything he knew, then imprisoned him in a tree. And I hope she pops up in the show to do the same thing. Someone helped Merlin forge the Amulet - I want to know what happened to that apprentice.

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-09-01 18:49:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the trolls didn't even really know about their feud during the battle of Killahead Bridge. We know the trolls have been around for a long time, but maybe either Merlin or Morgana (or both) actually had a hand in the creation of trolls to use as soldiers or something.

Maybe Claire takes on Nimue's role and turns him into a tree. It would go in hand with other people's theories of Claire learning magic from Merlin while they're in New Jersey.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-09-01 23:12:18 +0000 UTC]

I don't think either Merlin or Morgana created Trolls - there are too many species, too much variety. Though Morgana may have had a hand in Gunmar's creation, since none of the other dying Heartstones created bloodthirsty warlords as far as we know. And where did Merlin & Morgana come from? With all the elements of Arthurian legend and the fact that they're fairly spry for being ancient magic wielders, they're probably from the island of Avalon (which has all sorts of wonky time rules). But that doesn't answer why they came to our world, or why Merlin cut off her hand to make the Amulet.

Claire trapping him in a tree, Troll Jim going through another mood swing & eating him, Blinky using his Dwarkstone collection to obliterate him for destroying the Vespa - any of these fates would be too good for him. BTW, you think the random British boy from Season 3 will turn out to be a wizard, too? There's something off about him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-09-01 23:58:03 +0000 UTC]

He might be a wizard. I heard a lot of theories about it, and I thought MAYBE he was a changeling because of is line during the final battle: "I always hated these things" while smashing a Gumgum in the face shows there is definitely some history. I feel like he'll appear again, if not in 3Below then in Wizards, because it doesn't seem like the creators just throw something in like that without a reason.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-09-02 03:19:12 +0000 UTC]

I don't think he's a Changeling - if the Janus Order had a teenage operative at Arcadia Oaks Academy, they would've transferred him to Arcadia Oaks High to infiltrate the Three Caballeros long ago. My second thought was he might be an alien like Aja and Krell, but neither of them had seen any kind of Trolls before, so he wouldn't have any reason to hate Gumm-Gumms in particular. And he's too unique to be just a one-off background character like the dentist or the Vespa salesman. Whatever he is, I'll forgive his pointless flirtations with Claire if he can either change Troll Jim back to Human Jim, give Troll Jim the Changeling ability to shift back & forth so he has a real choice in the matter, or take down Merlin.

My headcanon was always that he was a rogue Changeling or something. But him being a wizard still makes more sense.

*le gasp* I hadn't thought about him being able to turn Jim back before! I have hope again!

No magic can last forever. Not even Merlin's enchantments. The only question left is HOW to undo Jim's Trollification. My vote is killing Merlin, since death has already been proven to undo a ton of spells in this show (the Gollums collapsing after Angor Rot died the first time, Barbara regaining her memory after Vendel was murdered, all the Gumm-Gumms being wiped out after Gunmar was killed, the Endless Night ending after Morgana was banished to The Shadow Realm).

As you said before: death would be too kind.

Then again keeping him around would just be dangerous, even if he was a tree.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-09-03 14:02:09 +0000 UTC]

Maybe he should be banished to the Shadow Realm with Morgana. Everything that went wrong in the show was because of their spat - maybe a few millennia imprisoned together in the Shadow Realm will give them the opportunity to make amends. Or they can both be eaten by the Antramonstrum Claire relocated to the Shadow Realm during the events of "The Book of Ga'Huel."

Squabasaurus In reply to DisneyThorn92 [2018-09-03 21:42:15 +0000 UTC]

OOoooh, I forgot about the Antramonstrum!
Though I could see them containing it with magic or something. I could even believe Morgana being able to control it and she make it eat Merlin.

DisneyThorn92 In reply to Squabasaurus [2018-09-04 01:12:30 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, but it would give them a little trouble. Not to mention all of Claire's furniture floating around in the Shadow Realm. Imagine the two of them trying to have a badass fight to the death, and suddenly Merlin takes a couch to the face. While Morgana's laughing, a futon knocks her off her feet.
