Yoru was driven to become a slayer after losing her grandmother to a demon attack when she was a teenager. Upon joining, she was quickly acquainted with the Hashira, the first of them being Tengen Uzui as she had already developed a crush on him. (This takes place in an AU where the Uzui clan doesn’t practice polygamy, though I am willing to make fanart of Yoru with Tengen’s three other wives in the main universe.) When not on missions, Yoru enjoys spending her time either reading horror novels or going on walks in the forest. She gets along well with almost everyone in the demon slayer corps, though there are times she can’t stand Inosuke’s loud and uncouth mannerisms as he enjoys getting on her nerves, which occasionally results in them butting heads. Luckily, people like Tanjiro intervene to prevent the two from fighting each other since it’s taboo.

The memory of her grandmother haunts her even after serving under the corps for a few years. Since she has yet to exact revenge on the very demon who killed her, Yoru often suffers from guilt as she blames herself, feeling as if she could have prevented such a tragedy. During such episodes, the Goth falls into a daze as she rewatches the same trauma-inducing sight of the moment she found her grandmother dead under the very demon who killed her. She would have ended up dead too had the sun not been rising at the time, giving the demon an excuse to escape instead of continuing feasting on the people of Yoru’s village. These visions are normally triggered when she hears screams that sound similar to the ones she heard that fateful night. Yoru prefers to keep this to herself as she doesn’t want to stress others out over it, including Tengen who would eventually witness her unusual behavior and figure it out awhile later.

When having started her initial training, Yoru chose to specialize in shadow swordsmanship. Her moves include Lunar Eclipse, Blood Moon, Shadow Dance, Silhouette Slash, and Umbra Sphere. She aims to achieve the status of a Shadow Hashira, but before accomplishing that goal, she wants to assure herself that her grandmother’s soul will rest easy by eradicating the demon who took her life.
