Description
The top of the cycle was always the worst. Bitter losses, heavy combat, a night that seemed to stretch so long Yucca sometimes deliriously wondered if the cyborgs had found a way to douse the sun while it slept. But the sun always came, if you lived long enough to see it, and today it crawled its way over a bleary, mist-drowned Mino Ami. If there was one thing the weary soldiers could take solace in, it was that the cyborgs didn’t seem to see any better than they did when the fog rolled in.

Many of the Tonpelli Blues found themselves curling up wherever they could, sore and tired and too weary to even try and crawl back to a warm bed or campfire. Cirrus had found himself sitting against a half-decimated stone wall, instinctively jolting awake every time his head nodded. Sleep was too great a terror to face when every nerve in his body was still wired for the next attack. Emrys had no such issues. After a few wry comments, he’d passed out entirely, effectively pinning Cirrus in place as he mercilessly drooled on his shoulder.

There was no escape.

The third time he almost nodded off, he heard footsteps. Somewhere between groggy and alert, he gripped his spear and stared into the fog as slowly, someone began to materialize.

“Hey there, Hero.”

With a sigh of relief, Cirrus held up a finger, then pointed to Emrys. Yucca crouched down in front of them. In her hands were three mugs. She gave him a small smile, “Looks like you’re stuck.”

“Trapped forever,” Cirrus said dryly.

Yucca raised one mug like a cheer. “Wake him up then. I got cocoa.”

Cirrus glanced down at Emrys. “He needs his rest.”

“So do you, Hero.”

He sighed, “I’m not a hero.”

“Closest I’ve ever met.”

Cirrus sighed again, “You can just use my name. Please.”

“If you say so… uh…”

There were several moments of awkward silence, until finally, Cirrus said, with not a little bit of half-offended bafflement “Yucca are you serious?”

Yucca gave him an apologetic grin, and shrugged, “Names aren’t my specialty.”

He pinched his nose with his free hand, careful not to jostle Emrys too much. “It’s Cirrus.”

“Well alright then, Cirrus, I will. Try to remember that. In the meantime though-” She wiggled one of the mugs of cocoa at him, still grinning.

“How do you have so much energy?” Cirrus asked.

“Easy,” Yucca jiggled the mug, and grinned, “This is half Mogie coffee. Yannow. The good stuff.”

“Fuck, give me two mugs.”

Yucca laughed, stifling it quickly as Cirrus furiously shushed her. But he smiled. Slightly. He must be hitting the delirious point of exhaustion. Yucca set one mug down by Emrys as Cirrus took one for himself, and with her own, she settled down with him next to the stone wall, and for a minute or so, they drank in silence. Cirrus could feel the warmth seeping back into his bones.

“Speaking of names, you heard what they’re calling you these days?”

“I had.”

“What do you think of it?”

Emrys and Cirrus are cute and they are friends and that means Cirrus gets to pass out on him. This was definitely not just an excuse to draw the two of them being cute.
