Description
So i submitted and bought a macro lens, I picked up the Sigma 50mm EX DG Macro and have been playing with it the last couple of days, this is a shot of my micrometer (its used to measure the thickness of things very accurately), this bit of it measures about a cmRelated content

There'a a lot of fun with such micrometers my last experiment on science laboratories required using one
Great shot BTW

This tool is one near and dear to my heart; i would play with a micrometer all day if i could (i have been known to waste time during instrumentation lab playing with micrometers and verniers).. What a great shot! I love the sharpness in the engraved numbers and graduation marks.
BTW, how do you find the Sigma 50mm macro? is it sharp enough? how is the working distance, in being such a short focal length? i'm seriously considering buying one

Appologies for late, late reply, been offline most of the summer and only just catching up. The 50mm for me is great, im not a big fan of insect macros so the focusing distance of about ~3-5cm is not a problem, and the lens also doubles up as an uber sharp 50mm prime. If you wanna shoot insects go for the 105

I recently bought the sigma 105mm. It's really wonderful for insects, it give great working distance. I think the people the report it being soft wide-open are seeing focusing errors.. I have taken some shots that were simply misfocused

I think this is a shot that is worth submitting for this contest. the cropping, colors and lightning are very well done

Heh not as many as i had expect about 10 or so, the DOF and focus on the lens takes a little getting used to
