Description
When the Noldor led by Fingolfin discovered their betrayal, they went farther north and crossed the sea at the Grinding Ice which cost them many lives. With the Two Trees destroyed by Melkor, the departure of the Noldor out of the Undying Lands marked the end of the Years of the Trees, and the beginning of the Years of the Sun when the Valar created the Moon and the Sun out of Telperion's last flower and Laurelin's last fruit.Related content

it is amusing that you have drawn reindeer, I do not remember that the Noldors had it when they crossed the Chaos of Ice. in fact, I do not even know if they had mounts ...

)) In fact, it had to be ... um, like colliding ice floes, I suppose?
I mean, drawing an endless plain would be boring. Just the surface is swept up by the snow.
If they were walking on the ice, they would have to carry things on themselves. And the horses (I don't know for sure, but) most likely would have moved their legs in different directions because of the ice.
So ... consider this my personal opinion.

no worries, I really like ^^ and then I think that like all the world see the Elves as creatures of the forest, that they have cervids as mounts seems rather logical. (and then I have to admit that Thranduil had a certain class on his Megaceros ^^)

Or maybe it's only because I was inspired by the work of Peter and Weta Workshop. I didn't have anyone to tell me about Tolkien's books. I read them only in 2003. But these were all his works, including fairy tales, essays and poems.

I probably shouldn't say this, but a major part of the reason I love this image is because I learned that people actually ride reindeer in Real Life as a result! (Although it should be noted that this IS an excellent image in it's own right!).

Technically Thranduil is riding an Elk; there is a family resemblance between such a creature and a moose, but I believe the Elk is slightly less … homely than a Moose!

I know that many will begin to compare drawing with the film, but when i I drew it...well, I thought "poor horses!"... This ice... ...all these freezing animals laden with clothes, food and folded tents...I think the native animals of the north would come up for a campaign much better than horses. That's all.

Totally right. I did not want to say you stole the idea or something, it just looked familiar already to see an elve on a moose

At first I thougt "WTF Thranduil on a moose again !" But after reading what the subject was I recognize it's a pretty cool idea to have the Noldor riding reindeers. Just a little critic : aren't the horns of Fingolfin's deer a little too big ? Not in hight but in circumference ?
Nice job once again, your depiction of Elves here is better than usual, more human even if the light give them something special (especially Fingolfin)
