Looks fantastic Steve, theres a hell of a lot of details on the ships for a speed paint it adds alot to the image I think.

Thanks so much!
A lot of the details are facilitated by some of the tools in Photoshop (like custom brushes) - but it's certainly a satisfying process to work them into the image

This image [and the others in this series] has a strong but subtle 80s feel to it. It's as if 80s sci-fi were brought into the 00s without being stripped of it's character. Obviously this is a very good thing.

Thanks for your wonderful compliment!
I think there was something really good happening with 80s sci-fi - visually - and I'm probably channeling that sentiment into my work.

No problem. Perhaps because they didn't have the special effects tech we have now there was a real drive and passion to make everything really believable, which resulted in a good style and conviction.

It was much more difficult to make changes, so a lot of thought went into the planning and concept stage. It was a different mindset. Now we see 10X as many special effects - but they're not usually all that "special"

I agree; the 'perfectness' of modern CGI can rob visuals of their 'soul' sometimes.

I agree - the "bloom is off the rose" in my opinion - stuff really seems cranked out like an assembly line a lot of the time.

I have no idea why, but this tends to make me think of some Gillette high-tech razor...

I suppose there's a resemblance - though not intentional

I have no real idea why it leaves me with that impression.... something in Gillette's marketing that's long been lodged in my brain, I guess....

It may be lodged in mine as well - I have definite memories of elaborate razor commercials from the 1970s...

Very cool. Love the ship design, and the background gives it a really neat style.
