they help a lot, especially for the lighting and shading!! do you use photoshop CS3? if you do may you tell us what settings do you use for the brush you paint with? you do not have to answer if you don't want to, I've asked people taht didn't want to tell me about the settings... No problem!

Hi, I dont actually use photoshop, I use Painter..but if it's any help with brushes, I change settings rather than the brush.
Sketching about 15% opacity
painting about 30-40%,
highlights and dark lines about 60-70%
and glazes about 4 or 5%.
hope that helps?

thank you! i didn't think you painted with such a low opacity. I always set 100%. I'm going to try just to see! thank you again

well, the theory is when you load a real brush with paint you wouldnt push it down 100%, you'd use lighter strokes.

Well man...... I didn't have like any time to do digital paintings, I've been busy! But I've been browsing through some of the pages from deviantart, and i've learned quite abit of theory on DP.... Nice tutorials u have though, gave me a better understanding.

Wow, old school.

I can see how you clearly took the same ideas from the original, but made them into your own, with your own personal style. A lot of people from this site could benefit from this.

Very cool, but I still don't understand completely. Do you use any layers?

I'll probably get it a little more when I get a tablet and start trying digital painting

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteveDeLaMare In reply to Sharkliver [2010-01-28 01:08:17 +0000 UTC]

Its one layer, like a traditional painting would be. Thats why the edes are able to be blended in or more sketchey than a photoshop "background, figure, forefround, jewelry separate layers" way of working.
Not saying im right, its just the way i work..traditionally. hope that makes sense.
