The myth is called Pygmalion
PygmalionΒ was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved.

Ah, too good for words, too good for tears... Even though I did shed a few when I saw this. Simply breath taking, not just the myth, but you, your art it self.Β

I'll give it a try... It's a story pretty similiar to your picture, despite the twist is vice versa - not she'll be flesh and bones, but... ah, I'll give you the link when I did the translation
^^

In my opinion this picture tells the story of a master of sculpture that is opsessed with this woman because she is everywere in the picture. There are smaller sculptures of her in the background and he was probably working on this natural scale version when he fell asleep as she came to life just as the artist said, alike the greek mith, am I right?

Might I add a subtitle to it: WIP (for the goddess Aphrodite, that is).
He's in for a pleasant awakening!

Is this about the guy that had to sculpt his perfect woman? I remember reading it on wikipedia in a sleepless night.

Wait but, is that a Tardis in the background? The Doctor really is everywhere.

wow...i love in this how you used a masterful grasp of contrast of light/dark hard and soft as well as composition to guide the viewer through the image. i hope i can be this good some day...all your paintings have such a wonderful painterly quality, and nothing is over rendered. i learned a few things just looking at your work.
