Steve~ I hadn't thought of it as an inner voice, but I am trying to keep things open to surprise myself in the painting process. I've been doing illustration for years, and though it can have it's good parts it also requires a good deal of compromise. So, I've started doing more personal works to explore and discover what my undiluted visions look like. Unlike illustration, I haven't been doing any planning or sketching, which can be a hit-or-miss approach, sometime requiring a good deal of repainting when I run into design problems or changes in direction. I then try to be aware of what my ego tries to get me to do vs what a truer version of myself wants (often in a quieter voice)- I guess in a way that is an inner voice! It's though this process that I find out what the piece is all about, it's nice to be surprised unlike the commercial work where surprises aren't allowed.

Dude!! During one of my last DMT trips, I started to panic for the first time, because it became super intense and I wasn't prepared. The second that I started to panic, my soul shot out of my body and up into... blackness. And then I saw this EXACT image!!! Well, I saw 5 beings surrounding me, just as these beings are surrounding the Earth and behind them was a magnificent light, very similar to this one, but brighter. The beings all placed their hands on my chest and told me that this light was my creator and that everything was going to be alright. And with that, I felt this energy from Creator flow through them and into me and I became completely calm and then slowly made my way back to my body after seeing the typical geometric wonders that are usually present during my trips. It was amazing and I've wanted to capture it in my art, but apparently you beat me to it

ha whoa crazy dude. I'm jealous. I met a girl once who I showed this painting to and she had a dream she was in it. I guess i'm just a messenger? A little voice in my head tells me what to paint, i'm not gonna lie, there is little conscious thought. I'm like a servant. haha. So maybe there's more to this piece. I have a hard time with DMT, i'm not doing it right. :s

That is exactly how I feel about my work, as well. I've literally had visions that became my drawings... I felt strongly compelled to convey whatever that image was. It's amazing how ideas can just strike you out of nowhere, at times. Like they were just handpicked and shoved into your consciousness by some unknown source.

For sure man. Like theres a very important point to making it. Its like a mult formed interpretation of a messge, a thought, feeling, shape, dimension. It speaks to you so you can say it to the world. So in that sense you are a conduit. I very much like creating art with meaning to me, cuz its a journey, a surprise. a lesson. I struggle with other peoples design ideas they give me. It has to come from within for me to want to do it. I dont know why i paint other than to express something that wants to come out and i like how this kind of art affects people. It feels rewarding i guess.

Absolutely! And that goes the same for music, as well. I can't help someone with a song that just follows the normal pop patterns. One that is just created purely to win people over and get the POPular vote. I can only get into music that is created purely from the heart and soul. That is made to convey whatever feeling that writer had at the moment. I can only connect that way. The other way just feels fake and weak.

Any kind of experience I've had I would consider spiritual has usually been non-discriminitive over form as I suppose it is meaningless. Tool has sort of a dark feeling philosophy and I decided to play up on that by depicting the "angels" in their song to be something almost creepy. Like some concept of a group being from another dimension with less need for individual processes, form and highly intelligent and function based with a different comprehension of what we call emotions. It was a different angle to take it. I made sure to give them halos, representing their 3rd eye to say they have a high spiritual state as well as ultrasensory perception as they view the humans via hologram with a puzzled expression. I made them look like black goo to make them seem more creepy but also to imply that they are unformed and sort of take shape and materialize as they feel the need. This was a fun one, i'd like to attempt it again and make it smoother and more consistent but it's still one of my favourites!
