Description
A group of friends noticed that a local river in the woods had dried up. They decided to walk down the river only to find the sand along the bottom had a nasty surprise hidden beneath it...---
I've been working on this one on and off again for a while now, and it's one of those pieces that I just thought looked worse and worse the more I looked at it. If I hadn't had to draw a background, it probably wouldn't have made me lose interest so many times but nevertheless, here it is. Not a fan of it, but I'm sure someone will probably enjoy it.

Backgrounds are a nice additional frame of reference for progressions of sinking but, considering the very crisp style you use here and the thoughtfully and sensually depicted rendering of the quicksand itself, the background becomes less of a necessity. What I like about your call on background, here, is your harmonizing it with the color scheme of the uniforms; this makes this a very pleasing picture, overall.
I also like how the brown and green-haired girls' hands and arms get muckier and muckier as they get more and more involved in the struggles. The last girl is almost haunting as her uppermost face is nearly a blank as though to indicate 'lights out', what with the hand in question that it be reached in time.
The red-haired girl seems almost in a dream which may indicate she's on a different 'wavelength' than the other 3, oblivious of the danger dimension of this bed.

Thank you! I always enjoy showing more muck on the person as they get deeper mainly because of how spectacularly A-020 shows that. As for the expressions on everyone's faces, the point is that the chain had just broken right before the image, meaning the first two girls on the left aren't even aware that the last one on the right isn't getting pulled out. The one on the far right's expression is meant to show how tired she was from the struggle which is why she really doesn't have enough in her to hold on.

Wow! This is awesome! I like it how you can see the 4 levels of quicksand sinking: only foot in, up to hips, up to the chest and than only hair sticking out. Great work!

Thanks! The idea actually came about because I wanted to draw a piece and couldn't decide how deep to draw the victim. Then, I had the idea why not just have a concept showing all of them?
