It's always the infantry taking the toughest of the beatings, yet you can win a war without them.

I love this, so much fun. Whats going on here? I personally think the fallen soldier died saving his friends life. The look on the red foxes face says it all. "Why'd you do it? Why'd you have to go and be the hero." Or, maybe it was friendly fire, and hes sad because his buddy died needlessly. Maybe he was a mutineer, and had to be put down. Maybe he was an enemy (in similar uniform) and our foxy victor is showing respect for his fallen foe. Regardless this painting really makes me feel sad. Poor little guy.

I can hear the pitter patter of rain on their coats, and the tink tink tink on the helmet. I hear the distant rumble of thunder, as the wind picks up and slows down. I can feel the wetness of their fur, as the water and blood drips off.

I know this has been up here a long time, but I love this. Amazing work, I can't begin to imagine how much time had to go into this.

Love the emotions that have been conveyed, they're very well done. And yeah, the thing that pops into my head when I see the poor guy on he left is who was he? Why is he here? And all that other stuff.

This is very moving picture that makes me feel really sad for the poor guy there. I always hated the idea of people having to go to a war, knowing there's a high chance of dying. In a few milliseconds, they're just gone, all they were, all their memories, knowledge, interests, talents... gone or quickly decaying as the brain dies and the neural networks and signals that made up all that decay and all is left is the lifeless body, reminding you of that every time you look at it. I think that the picture portrays the gloomy atmosphere of that feeling very well.

Plus bullet trough the head (that's what I assumed from picture due to the hole in unfortunately-not-so-protective helmet) is the way that has both most fascinated and terrified me. To think what happens to the consciousness or to the person itself, or even to the brain as the bullet quickly destroys a portion of it. People say that its instant death, though I suppose it's rather instant loss of consciousness (and not even in all cases), but portions of the brain still remain somewhat working, until they slowly die off too, because of lack of oxygen and such.

What happens to the mind and to these left portions of brain? What happens in the very short time the bullet is passing trough the brain? Although brain isn't capable of feeling pain by itself, damaging portions of it might cause some really weird feelings. What if the person still feels something even when seemingly unconscious (but rather unable to communicate with the surroundings), slowly dying off as more and more of the brain stops working (by that I mean any electrical impulses, even chaotic ones). And if the still remaining portions get isolated and cant communicate? Is the mind, although unconscious, separated? We don't even know how exactly is our mind linked to the physical and energetic structures of the brain.

All we know is, that the victim is gone, the information, that was growing, changing and improving over many years, affecting many others, is lost, for good. Very depressing.

These are my thoughts that emerged when gazing at your magnificent artwork. How simple idea, yet so complex implications. Plus the questions... who was the guy who died? Who is the guy sitting next to him and what is he thinking when staring at the lifeless body? Maybe all that I just said (apart from "Who is the guy sitting next to him?" unless he got some sort of amnesia and is looking at the scenery in a mirror of which existence he isn't aware of)? Did he drag him there from somewhere on the battlefield? What will happen to the decaying body afterwards? What will happen to his relatives? What will happen to him? Will he die as well? And why are strawberries combined with a ineffective glue the main food source of the planetary worms?

Sorry for the wall though, it's just, my brain does that when presented with this topic presented in an excellent form and skill. Unless someone shoots it too. Though maybe not even then...

Anyway, I have a habit of commenting works that I consider really awesome with new words so:
It's frutibillywimorous!

Everything I just said above summed up in a single word.

mmmmkay why does he have a ww2 helmet when he has a modern(ish) uniform , and what weapon is the gu to the left using, looks kind of like an HK USP match

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TempleGuardian In reply to fox0509 [2011-06-03 22:16:45 +0000 UTC]

i donΒ΄t think that you can really see, that it is a modern uniform. I see green clothes and a ww2 helmet which was used by the american army (and maybe some other nations and armys) in WW2. And the gun to the right could be a Thomson (a MG, which was used by the army, too.)

So it look like, that those two guys are American soldiers in WW2.

see what i meant was, that they look too much like synthetic fibers, used in more modern uniforms.

TempleGuardian In reply to fox0509 [2011-06-05 18:12:46 +0000 UTC]

Who say, they hadnΒ΄t it.

In WW2 Germany had the first helicopters, the first rocket for an attack with high range and the first fight planes with jet propulsion. And that is more than 60 years in the past.

And, with the right way to produce it and with the right color, you can find a different only, if you hold the uniform in your hands.

fox0509 In reply to TempleGuardian [2011-06-06 13:18:20 +0000 UTC]

listen,(or, read ) i know what a wwII uniform looks like. i can tell they are american, because the have olive drab uniforms. they just dont look right. and i dont see any type of unit insignia, or even a rank. and i have a couple of wwII uniforms at my house. and he would have to be an officer, or a vehicle driver, to have that. and again, i see no unit or rank insignia

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TempleGuardian In reply to fox0509 [2011-06-06 14:51:08 +0000 UTC]

And what have the normal sodiers. They wear only the flag, if it didnΒ΄t get lost. Maybe you mean the uniforms for parades, where you can see who is part of a special unit. But the uniforms for launch havenΒ΄t so much, and they donΒ΄t look so beatyful. Here I found something, and before you think wrong, it is an American uniform and that guy is part of a club, where they are interested in things like that: [link]

By the way, I didnΒ΄t say, that are american, because they are green, I said it, because the gun was used by Americans and the helmet is typical for American soldiers.

everything that's great about this piece has been pretty much said, it's amazingly well done, awesome concept, and love the style. the only thing that's off is how bright the furr is on the fox's left side cheak, the light source can't reach it there, if you match it to the light on the dead fox's furr and imagine it on the one that's alive i think you'll see what i mean, but everything else is brilliant. great job
