Description
December, 2004. Second in my series of elemental dragons is the element of ice, now in his fourth (and final) incarnation. Ice, being the solid form of Water, has dominion over the cold temperatures, and also shares its power with the Water element (which would come next in this series).I was worried about not being able to sustain the same level of detail as in the Fire dragon I started this series with -- but as the results show here, I had nothing to worry about (yet). The shaded crystals decorating his form are impressive, but quite easy to create, using a gradient technique I remember experimenting with as far back as eighth grade (in 1994). This dragon also sets a record for the fewest hues I've ever used in a drawing -- only three colors!
Media: Colored pencil
Time spent: 4~5 hours
Size: 75px/in at full view.
Work-in-progress scans, plus a comparison to this dragon's earlier versions, can be found in my Scraps section, here.

Wow. The sheen on the dragon's scales is amazing. @_@ I love those wings too.
This whole dragon itself is beautiful. <3 For just 3 colors...this is just...wow.
Excellent work.

Oh, that's right: Three colors... plus eraser. That's how I created the 'sheen' effect on his scales, by applying my eraser to it. (Colored pencil erases just enough to do that.)

Ya know he kinda looks like your avatar. This is amazing, but the wings most of all take the cake. It's like he's made of sapphires and diamonds. Beautiful.
