My prayers go out to the victims and the families of those who were involved in the salon massacre yesterday. I pray that you will be able to lift yourselves out of this tragedy, the worst that Orange County has ever seen. I pray for the family of the boy whose mother died, a kid I went to high school with. This isn't much, but please accept it.

The text in the heart reads "Support in Love: Seal Beach." This symbol has become the symbol for supporting those affected by that pitiful-excuse-of-a-man's shortcomings.

For those of you who don't know what happened, yesterday (October 12, 2011) a suspect (42-year-old man named Scott Dekraai) pulled into the parking lot of the Salon Meritage in Seal Beach, CA. Beside him was a man in his parked vehicle. Dekraai shot the man through his car window, then proceeded into the salon and shot nine people in the crowded salon, killing six instantly and leaving three critically injured. Of the three that went to the hospital, two have died and one is still in critical condition. Some of the people who were able to escape with their lives had locked themselves somewhere in the salon; they heard the gunfire cease for only a few moments while he reloaded his gun and continued to fire upon innocent people. Among those killed were his ex-wife (with whom he was having a custody battle over their son) and the mother of a boy who I went to high school with. It is the worst tragedy in the history of Orange County.

I live about ten minutes from the scene of the crime and have passed by it many a time when going to the beach with friends. Thirty minutes after this horrible incident happened (it wasn't yet released) I posted a status on Facebook saying what a great day it was because multiple things that I have been waiting for finally came through. To think that on the day that was one of the best days in a long time for me was the day that ended eight (potentially nine) lives due to the bad choice of a sickened man.

It just puts a lot of things into perspective for me.
Don't take things for granted and never think that something like this could never happen.
I thank God for my family every night.

Never again will I leave the house without saying "I love you" to my family. It could be the last thing they hear from me, and I from them.
