Description

If the fish are flying to the End of the Earth, then they have seized the only direction as their own.
Man, if I saw flying fish I would certainly follow them.
Alright, so anyway, here's another painting, it took many, many hours (20 or so) in psp-x. It's a whole buncha firsts. My first I-took-more-than-ten-minutes-to-paint-this-piece-of-crap background. First red haired person, first curly haired person. And the first image I've done (in a while) that I actually still like by the end of it.
Seriously, I'm in love with flying fish.
I know where some of the errors in this image are already. I'm still getting the hang of the hair, so that needs improvement and her anatomy is sort of... messed up. But who cares.
Enjoy.

thank you, yes, it does.
i had such an awful time with the proportions- i think the problem is actually her legs. if you look carefully you'll see that they're way way WAY too short. i'll probably fix it eventually.
thank you, though, i'll take another look at the swimsuit

I like your style in this. The picture with no much shadows or lights get a beautiful look. And the swimming costume, pose and colours play very well together to get a funny and beautiful feeling.

thank you! and you're pretty much the only person who worked out that it's a swimming costume not a gymnast's leotard.
i love you.

It's really quite interesting. I think you've done a very good job, especially on the shading. The background is really good, don't call it crap!

oh yeah, and the hair is great! Such an odd pose. An acrobatic girl at the beach. Definately feels like a story.

Everyone's commenting on this as if it should be more realistic, with more shading, etc. I like how it feels like a collage. The girl, fish, and tightrope all feel pasted onto the background. The only thing that seems odd to me is the background itself. It's pretty, but a different style from all the figures - blended and blurred, etc. You may want to try another approach to working with the background so that you keep all the great colors and shapes, while keeping in style with the figure. And explore this subject further.
The subject matter itself is absurdly surreal. It feels like a fantastic adventure, like Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. It feels like an illustration to a book. I haven't seen your other works, but I'd suggest making this into a story of some sort, either a series of digital paintings or else a children's book.

wow, thank you so much!
i keep trying to think of a story to this one.. i was going to make a series of images but i couldn't think of anything interesting enough to draw.
so i guess the story's open for interpretation!

great work on the anatomy and the colours compliment each other nicely although I do believe that there could be a little more shading on the girl. Other than that.. I love the soft look of this, it really looks fantastic.

This is very good. Excellent choices of colour. Very soft and complementary. Anatomy is excellent.
What I think could really improve this picture is shading and some more light. You've established a light source but it is not strong enough I think. Add just a bit more to the girl but more importantly to the rope, clouds and flying fish. It seems a bit odd to me otherwise.
With light, there comes shadow. Shading in her hair to give it more oomph. It's lovely but needs some volume. Not a lot, just bits showing underneath those curls. Also for the clouds to help define them. Not too much though. There's also no shadow on her, opposite the light. Even if it is subtle, I'm sure it can just give this picture the light extra that it needs.
Oh, also, her leotard needs some texture to it, maybe some shine. See some references for what kind of material. It looks rather flat. It also looks flat on her so perhaps you could paint a hemline of some sort. Stitching even.
You've done an exceptional job, especially for a 'first'. I've tried to suggest as much as possible that I think can be done to improve this if you ever wish to do so.

The anatomy looks pretty good to me, except she's bending back REALLY far. Otherwise gorgeous, love the subtly complementary colours and the smooth lines.
