Really, if any agency deserves budget cuts more than the TSA let me know... Wait, never mind, I can think of a few myself... However, maybe we should do away with the multiple redundant bureaucracy that is the Dept. of Homeland Security and send 'Big Sis' Napolitano back to New Mexico. Its obvious that these 'enhanced' screening techniques often times end up being used on children who aren't involved in terrorism; along with grandmothers, grandfathers, and I'm sure handicapped folks. Being a father of toddlers, this disgusts me; being a GWOT veteran who went forth to kill terrorists in their own nation, this angers me further to see these amateurs ignore techniques that are far less intrusive and far more effective (yes it involves profiling behavior, not race; though since most of the crazy suicide bombers stem from one part of the world... however that behavior profiling might also yield some other results in other arenas such as battling drug smuggling...). So here it is folks the articles for your perusal from Glenn Beck's [link] The Blaze [link] Little Miss Drexel's folks, and the [link] Jihad Jammer. So, which Americans should we screen more closely? If at all...

Reminds me of this one story I heard. A guy used fake facial hair and makeup to make him look like Osama Bin Laden and went through several airports with a fake ID that looked absolutely nothing like him. He was never stopped, never searched, nothing. He was never held up at all during several trips through airports all around the US.

IIRC, the guy (who did this to test the TSA) was absolutely horrified by this.

I'm all for getting rid of the TSA altogether. It's absolute nonsense.
I got SO mad when I saw that video with the little girl. I don't think I'd be able to keep a cool head if that were happenening to my child.

One wonders if the Left will buy a clue after an entire city disappears off the map... or will they crack down even harder on Christians, white people and conservatives?

You know that six year old girl was gonna do some huge damage!
We need to profile the same way the Israeli's do!

Yup, behavior is very telling... But then, I know I'm preaching to the choir with you you on that one!

Yess!
Sadly though there is a precedent, drug dealers have used puppies to get cocaine over the border. We know that in that certain part of the world, jihadists have used at least one mentally ill teen ager and the widows of suicide bombers, however there is a line that needs to be drawn.
Chemical sniffers are obselete but I don't know of any technology better than the dog's nose. They can be trained to smell out anything and there are few "oderless" chemicals a dog wouldn't be able to find. I'd rather be submitted to a sniffing by a sweet labrador retreiver or blood hound than submit to a pat down by a bored, or worse eager, TSA agent. Once trained, the dogs don't require much, just love affection and regular meals. Not much of a budget waster there. No bennies or union woes... No malfunctions or computer errors, no need to worry about the issue of storing less than flattering images of naked people... I say it's a win win right?

Smuggler's and suicide bombers will always have certain behaviors that can be picked up on by the trained eye. 'Enhanced pat-downs' just encourage them to go off in all reality, making the checkpoint a more enticing target than the airplane; which therefore makes TSA an enabler of terrorism more than a deterrent (along with being an irritant and giving the terrorists their desired effect...). I do agree about using canines more often however, as they have proven very effective in drug work; however the reason they don't use them is the 'probable cause' has been fought in court with canines. Right now, nobody seems willing to pursue a case against the TSA on their flagrant violation of the 4th Amendment since 2001.

I think it was Ben Franklin who said something along the lines of (forgive the paraphrase)
One who is willing to give up some personal liberties in the name of security, is deserving of neither liberty or security. (civilization 4 is where I saw it last... lame source but applicable in this circumstance.) I agree and I really don't have a reason to go by plane anywhere and do not plan on making that kind of travel plans. We'll drive. I just worry about you and your family....

...Lets just say Alaskans are starting to feel the need to form our own country at times with the manner in which our state is treated as a mere Colony exploited solely for the use of our raw materials and restricted so as to prevent human habitation. "Last Alaskan out, close the gate" is the running gag as the BLM and National Park Service along with Fish and Wildlife continue to stomp on the ability of people to live off the land out in the bush as well as our oil being pumped out of the ground, shipped out, refined and sent back at higher gas prices than anywhere else in the nation (we are at $4.10 a gal. average, how about you?). Then you get TSA...

Sad really, just like sending all our pretty trees to China to get pounded to pulp and then we buy back the paper at four times the cost....

We're not far behind you on gas prices 3.98 last time I looked a few days ago....

Oh crap, you know, I have two feet and 50 pounds to lose, summer's coming...

Lighten up brother dear. Frown too much and you'll scare your youngest. Keep making that face and it'll freeze that way
