A REALLYYYY BIGGG file. XD

I see a lot of people saying that they can't pixel, and I was inspired to make a tutorial (not like there aren't already a million pixel tutorials out there... >_>).

I know there's a lot of text, but I wanted to be helpful. D:

It's my first time making a tutorial in a graphical manner — normally I would just type it out — so I hope it looks alright and that the giant blocks of text aren't too intimidating.

If you use this tutorial to recreate my double-scoop bear, you MAY NOT offer it as a free icon (and must state in the deviation title that it is not free) and you MUST link back to this tutorial in the deviation description. Thanks. <3

By the way, GIMP is a completely free program, and I personally use it for everything! You can learn more about GIMP and download it for free here .

hehe, >W< i really want to try out some pixeling, but it seems to be really time consuming T_T. Also, how do you make it animated like the bear ice cream one, it's so cute to see it bounce!

I'm planning on making a tutorial on that soon as well ^_^ It's pretty easy, assuming you already have something pixelled. I guess you'd have to know how to use an animation program already, though. D:

But to give you a brief summary, I took the pixel I had and just moved part of it down one pixel. I saved the original and the moved-down pixel separately, and then another couple images for when it blinked. Then I used my animation program and inserted the images and set the speed for the animation.

...It will probably make more sense when I have images to go with the explanation, haha. D:

oh yes please haha, thank you for teaching us!! which animation program do you use?

I actually use UnFREEz, though imo Jasc Animation Shop is generally better (both are available for free). Jasc is better in terms of overall ease and time spent, because to use UnFREEz you have to already have your pixels in .gif format (and already transparent if you want them to be), but in Jasc, you can import your pixels and make them transparent and change the file format there, as well as preview your image speed before you save it. The only reason I stopped using it was because most of the time when I tried to save, all the pixels changed color or wouldn't animate and I couldn't figure out how to fix the problem. x_x

When I make a tutorial, though, I'll either include both programs or make two separate tutorials, one for each program. (Because to use the UnFREEz method, you also have to use the program Irfanview to make it transparent as well as a little shortcut method to make sure it doesn't lose color when you convert it to a .gif.)

Er... long story short, if you want to practice without having a visual tutorial, I'd try Jasc. ^_^

Thank you! :3

The header font is Cookies, and I believe the main font is SDKwangSoo M. I'm not sure where exactly you can find it/who the original maker is, but I know that [link] is redistributing it for download if you want it!

It's one of my favorite fonts. ^u^ Along with UdamojiAL and SacchiAlphabet (they all look very similar to one another, haha).

I just used Paint, but I heard that there's a new, weird version out with Windows 7 now!

Thank you. I am very glad if it helps you out!

You just use paint? THAT IS AWESOME!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sugary-Stardust In reply to cherineko [2011-09-03 23:37:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I think I'd actually find it difficult to use any more advanced program, because I've been using Paint for almost a decade now and I'm used to it. XD Truly though, almost every pixel technique — and certainly the simple ones — can be accomplished in Paint. :3 It takes a little more patience sometimes though, ahaha.

I was wondering from the start, do you accept art trade? ;A;/

Sugary-Stardust In reply to cherineko [2011-09-04 02:51:50 +0000 UTC]

It depends on what you're asking for. But probably.

I was actually just working on a little pixel avatar of Cherineko, haha. But if you want to trade so I give you a chibi, you can have both because I'll make that little avatar regardless of whether we trade or not.

She has so many details that I have to take some out in order for it to fit on the icon, though. D:

*sob* You are so kind, really! It's okay, thank you so much!!!
Then, what should i draw for you? ;u;/

Sugary-Stardust In reply to cherineko [2011-09-04 03:14:14 +0000 UTC]

You're sure that a pixel icon of Cherineko is what you want? (It would look like my pixels of Candy + Pinky Parfait and Rini + Misaki.)

Hmm... could I have a chibi of Rini? Ref: [link] (Her ears are actually white.)

If you don't think a trade like that is fair to you, I can do a chibi of Cherineko, too. It would be in the same style as Rini's ref and would take a bit longer because of all the details, but if you could wait a couple extra days, that's fine.

cherineko In reply to Sugary-Stardust [2011-09-04 03:20:36 +0000 UTC]

No, you don't need to make chibi of Cherineko, i think the icon should be just perfect for me
Alright! I will start it now! But, if you don't mind, would you add a red cat beside Cherineko, please? (It is actually Cherineko's cat form), but if you don't want, it's okay!
