Description Fan Art of Bossk from Star Wars, Selphie from Final Fantasy 8 and a original character. part of a concepetual comic idea.

::
slightly unfished work, which you can tell if you look at the feet and some of the semi-rought edges. done with a combination of hand work and computer. no current plans in the works to touch up the last of the work, but you never know possibly.

Hehe, so you like Selphie?
Umm... I wonder why your lineart looks so crispy like that! Maybe you should try smoothening it a little with duplicate layer+gaussian blurr+decrease opacity. XD
But the problem probably resides on the way you scanned/treated the image.
For the base colors it's advisable you don't use such intense bright colors. ^^ This way the shading can show up a bit more.
I think the shading is fine.
Sorry my english sucks.

it does? well so does mine, and i am a native speaker

yeah... my lines always look kinda crappy. due in large part to the fact that i have crappy scanner and then shrink stuff down too much, but we all have bad habits to break

starting darker, i havent ever really gone that route, it might be worth a try. currently i always start at a middle point for shades, and then do light and dark shading layers. since i have never been shown proper airbrushing tech. i just have kinda gone on gut feelings with that stuff. and yeah i agree the more layers the better!

No no, no starting darker. XD You are doing it right, starting in the middle. This "middle color" is called "base color", I was just saying you shouldn't use such bright and intense colors as the base color.. like that red and that bright greenish blue in the pants, for example. Try using more opaque (tending a bit more to gray) tones, so the shading can show up more.
And airbrushing is complicated. I think you can either use airbrushes or go for cel-style, if you go for airbrush there can't bee too much contrat between the shading/base color/highlights. I mean, that's what I think looks better. ^^'

i think i probably do a combo of both, from hearing what you have to say. i think that is one reason it takes me so long. thanks! , i might try drawing up something simpler tonight and giving it a go. course i need to pull myself away from ff8!
