Description
Another pointless screencap pic that isn't a screen cap whatsoever. It was a practice to simple the style bettering the reproduction of pictures aka anime / flash / comics without the hassle of shading and highlights. Which let me tell you is half the battle x_x;I'm not really sure if 'bettering' is the right word for it but it's me trying to make it look decent but not half-assed. I have a ton of stock photos for clouds when I went out on a photo shoot a few months back and I actually REALLY like how they look! The mountains, trees and grass were hastily done because it's getting late and I wanted to get this done and over with.
Any feedback would be great as it was a practice art and a test of simplicity vs effectiveness. Was it effective? Is it too simple? Stuff like that! Be gentle XD I can name a couple of anime that use simple coloring technique like the Digimon Movie and [link] .

Good idea with the clouds, they go with the scenery.

Gotta keep this comment relatively short this time around, because of some stuff...but must say, you really did a nice job here. Some more outlines could've been done in black instead of small brown tones, particularly around in the facial area, but on a general scale this definitely hit the nail on the goal you were aiming to achieve. You'd obviously want to go for a lot more detail in the background to truly make this appear like an official, fleshed out screen-capture of an anime, but yeah overall not bad dude.
Keep it up.

The clouds are actually a stock photo I took when I went out on a photo shoot a few months back (as I said in the comments) XD

I am not good at critiques, soooo I won't do that. XD
But I do have to say I love the tree...leave...shadows or whatever. xD And I like the tree behind him/you, too. Then the whole feel of the pic is epic... sooo, ja. XD
Teh clouds are awesome, too. Even though it was a photo. Because, I mean, when I take photos of clouds, my camera ends up hating me (not matter the settings x.o) and makes the whole photo look all... grainy? And we get ugleh clouds herrre. XD

sorry that this probably won't be as long as some of the other comments here, but I like the shading techs you applied!

I like it a lot AND I completely get where you're coming from. Shading can be SUCH a pain sometimes. To be completely honest, i actually rather like the simple shading style you've used here. It totally proves how art can look great even without being overly complicated!

You've really gotta make something like this in flash and animate it-- it'd look way past awesome.
This is very very very...
...
...very very awesome.

I guess the only quirk I have is-- NOTHING. This really kicks back to an old school style that was really easy to study and enjoy. I think that's why some of the old school animes has A BAZILLION EPISODES as opposed to the complexed series that are out now.
What program are you using to do this? Flash?

Wow, if you had very MUCH patience you could do an anime (If you ever do, do it better than the actual pokΓ©mon anime PLZ >-<)
Anyway, probably you won't do it anyway...
Meh.

I think it works pretty good, the simple look on Tuler does resemble old-school anime really well, and even without dynamic lighting/shading it looks like what you'd expect from anime just fine. The drawn bg looks really good, although I'm not sure the photo-clouds blend in with it too well, but they work..

I think the simplicity turned out really well.
I might just suggest some shading under the nose and behind the ear, but that might be personal preference. Because you were trying to shade as little as possible, it'd be tricky to tell how little is too little.
I think a better test would be if the character wasn't in the shade. The shadows of the branches are making up for his lack of ... "personal" shading shall we say.

He kinda reminds of Chris Thorndyke from Sonic X. Don't know if that's a good thing though.
Anyways, very nice style

damn i was about to say this reminds me of an anime i saw when i was younger. Now, considering i watched that movie a ton of times when i was a kid. This actually looks a lot like it belongs in it. all that's missing is ur digi partner.
(sorry its a bit lengthy. haha dood can't wait to get to ur level boss XD)
perfect "in my onion" srry i had to say that

In your onion! Of course... 8D. But thanks! It was the coloring style I was trying to go for because it's easier to reproduce. It's making tedious stuff like panels and frames less of a hassle! Yet I want to stay original and not too close to their style which is why the way I draw em' hopefully seems like my own.
Holy chunk of words! XD My chunk is bigger. HAW HAW... :3

well i have grown to love and worship the Tuler style.
you could probably use it for like some things, or maybe like experiment with mixing ur style and that for something?
again i have still grown to idolize the Tuler style and its creator ^_^
