Description
Final Upload: All in all I'm pleased with this image and enjoyed it. There are tons of things still wrong with it, like Savannahs face and Lotties hide legs. But I flat out let time catch up on me. It's been a crazy week with my truck breaking down, Wes leaving on a 5 day trip Thursday, his friend coming to stay with us and me having to do extra cleaning and cooking.Tonight I realized I had to finish this or I would miss the whole competition. Even though I was bone tired, I forced myself to work into the night to finish and I'm so glad I did. It went by fast and I like this image. Little Lottie is so sweet!
Event: Giant Nordanner Birthday Event
Horse: sVa Little Lottie 1294
Handler: Savannah Scotts
Class: 5 Best In Show: Phase 1-Halter
Horse Ref: [link]
Girl Ref: [link]
Update: Working on some grayscale shading. The due date is creeping up on me and I start work tomorrow! I'm trying not to rush this.
Update: Working on the face. Thank you *OxStudio !
The stars aligned just right enough for me to draw a human and enjoy it! I think it was designing her outfit that I liked and what kept me going on it. I had to spend about 5 hours drawing her-I'm just not people oriented enough to draw one I like.
And her face still needs work so that's why I'm posting. I'm going to the barn but I expect to come back to critique on how I can maker her face LOOK RIGHT! Dang it!

If Lottie is supposed to be 17hh, Savannah would have to be 6'6" or something similar.
Very nicely done on the handler, though, she's standing quite nicely. The mare is standing pretty well, but you made her a bit straight behind, making her appear more like a post-legged Quarter Horse than a warmblood-type. Technically you should be able to drop a straight line from her buttock to the ground and have the backs of her cannons on that line.
I know I'm woefully late in commenting, but I keep them in my inbox wanting to respond and comment, but tragically lacking the time for it! I hope you don't mind them trickling in like this in odd batches.

I don't mind them at all! I always look forward to reading your comments. They always help me and usually you explain it in a way that I remember your suggestions for the next drawing.
I'm actually proud, the hind leg thing I noticed after it was finished and a few days later. Sometimes it takes taking a break away from a piece and not seeing it for a while to notice your mistakes. But by that time it would have been too much to correct. But yeah, I noticed her bent in legs! It does bug me though. I really like this one specially since the human and her outfit look so nice, but then the horse takes a way from it. Poor Lottie deserves better. Soon I will get back to drawing her!

I'm glad you find them useful and don't mind the belated, sporadic nature of them!
Looking again too I notice her hind legs are closer to the viewer than the forelimbs and simply adding angulation would fix both the lack of bend and the length discrepency. Yeah, letting the drawing " rest" can bring out a lot of things that don't seem to appear while you're in the middle of it all. If you have several pieces going at once you can rest a sketch while you ink or color another piece. Of course I am perfectly aware that enthusiasm sometimes takes over and the piece just about paints itself!

Usually I am a 1 project person, I start and finish one picture before I start another. But, over the past month or so I have started several. So maybe I'm breaking out of that one picture at a time mindset. Probably for the best.

I believe it helps prevent some burn-out if you're not spending 10+ hours AI row on one piece (even broken up).

Thank you for showing, that Nordanners can be much more than fast art to gain credit points.
This piece now got a place in the #Nordanner feature gallery folder, where we feature the best nordanner art in the group.

LOTTIE you are way to cute. <3
This is simply stunning love. :3 the shading and Savannah looks amazing next to Lottie. Hehehe
But I know what you mean, I had to get my butt into gear to finish Anya's entires, sadly I don't think I had enough time to finish her liberty or halter sadly. :/

Thank you! Yeah, I didn't get to doing any other my other horses like I wanted. I had plenty of time I just didn't get to it! I don't know what happened. And you know-you said "Savannah looks amazing next to Lottie," which totally reminded me I forgot to size down Savannah a little so her height fits to scale with Lottie! Grrrrr. Way too tired tonight to do it. O well, future note-Savannah=little, Lottie=big.

Ok so I just typed out a nice long replay and then my browser crashed before I could post it /fail.
So it short, and sorry its brief but I can't recapture the awesome that it was before:
Savannah seems a little skinny (normally I make my ppl too skinny to start off with too) what I do for this is take a picture of myself in the pose (if I can't find what I want on DA) and reference that. Her arms and legs look especially small/lanky but then I'm not sure what you have in mind for Savannah's build.
But where I think you should really work is on her face, faces are hard! Her eyes look good, if a little high, but her nose and mouth are too small and I would work on her jaw line too, unless you want her to look more anime.
Here is a great way to learn how to get the proportions right on a face, we use this method to learn in art school so its tried and true: [link]
Also here is a picture of someone at a 3/4 head shot (first picture I found there might be a better one out there), this will help you see how the nose, mouth and eyes look at this side: [link]
You have a great start and if you got this far with out a reference then I am in awe at how awesome you are at drawing people without a reference!

Wow that was a fantastic tutorial. I don't have time to write much, but I will tonight. In the mean time I updated it with some face fixes and it's already so much better! I could be happy with it. If only she didn't look so serious. o.o lol I'll comment more later.

Well 17hh is 68 inches or approximately 5'8", so if she is at that height or below it she seems slightly too tall (her chin seems to line up with the withers, when it should be the top of her head). If she is taller than 5'8" then you might want to adjust it slightly but not by much.
Also, the lines are absolutely stunning. Really nice work.
