Description
I figured I would find some initiative and finish this painting since I liked where it was going. Sorry for my absence the past few days, brithday was busy, then I got sick (allergies or cold type thing) and just general busyness. It's sweet Cinder boy grazing in the wooded area of his pasture. He's a love bug and I have certainly loved up on him in this piece. I love how this turned out.
Thank you everyone who helped me with suggestions. And a huge thanks to =Rosalaun for "red lining" the lighting for me.
Started this last night, but now am too tired to work on it tonight.

Hmm.... I think it would work if you treat it as muted backlighting, so focus the highlights along the topline (perhaps blueish reflections to add a nice bit of variety and stop it looking too flat), and give a bit of a very muted glow to the edges of the tail and hues of green around the edges of the legs and head.
Would also help a lot if you added slightly green hues into the shadows on the underbelly too, nothing too garish, because at the moment s/he's not blending in too well with the environment, and with this being a darker horse, they will tend to take on their environment colours in their shading a little, it helps add more depth too
And bring the shadow from the horse so that it pulls back towards the viewer a tiny bit if you do use that lighting style
Looking awesome so far however, lovely relaxed pose and that background is to die for, great choice of composition bringing that tree on the left, really helps to bring a definition into the different grounds.

Since the horse is in the shade of the tree, the shading should stay relatively muted, but of course don't be afraid to add some "sun dapples" to mimic light filtering through the tree's branches

Oh dear Me, that's going to defiantly be hard to shade, but even when it's done it will still be stunning, and if I correct and this is a Nordanner....with its cropped main and long tail and the feathers, I'm guessing it might be a pretty spotted butt stallion? *couldbewrongthough*
Hehehe this is also a very lovely background. :3
