Description
This is a custom-commissioned weathervane concept for one of my dad's customers (he builds log homes ), in which they requested to have depicted the types of exotic animals, fish and livestock they raise on their ranch (wapiti, whitetail, longhorns and bass), the Texas A&M college logo, their three daughters' portraits and the girls' initials, as well as the initials of the parents. I myself decided to add the types of trees that grow on their land (oak and pine), the indian arrow and the state of Texas outline. They also requested that their daughters' initials be placed where the directional letters would normally go, with the exception of "N", which will still stand for "North". (Edit: I've posted photos of the final crafted piece and its installation on the cupola of the log gazebo for which it was intended; see here and here . I've also designed matching wall sconces and a circular metal wall mounting .)Note: The two separate directional arms with the animals/branches will be welded together at the "T" logo, making a plus (+) shape where both "T"s are welded together (there will be a welding line going right up through the middle of the "T", which is not shown in the drawing). The ends of the oak and pine branches will be welded to the pole/shaft at slightly different levels, but the weld of the "T" will be exactly aligned.

Holy cow, that's awesome!! The sheer amount of detail...like how you did both different types of tree at the top and as a base.... Just...wow. I can't wait to see this finished!

Wow Swanie! I didn't know that you had so many diffrent talents. Myself I would be scared silly trying to weld it all together. I know that I will look amazing and the family will be very pleased.

Very intricate! I have only one critique to make. I find that the silouhettes look a bit "cramped" enclosed in the shape of Texas like this. Since you have to do them again anyway... I would rather have them aligned on the arrow reglardless of fitting them into the State shape? It might even reinforce the symbolism of having the "parents trees" enclosing their offspring.
Just a suggestion of course.
It's a lovely concept and not easy to finalise. Can't wait to see the final object(s)

Well, I need to have them inside the TX outline, but I might make them a bit smaller; if I do, then I'll need more flowing hair strands connecting them together and to the outline...I'll know better once I get the photos.

Wow, that is an amazing weather vane! It's cute how the daughter's initials are pointing directions, I was a wee bit confused at first til I read everything. I like the side with the whitetail and the longhorn the best.

That's very spiffy looking! What kind of material are you going to be making it out of?
LIke the old rusty typical looking weather vain or something shiney and new?

I think it's going to be copper, but I'm going to suggest they have a weathered patina applied to it, so it's not so bright. Of course, copper will develop a natural verdigris patina over time which looks nice.

h yes that would look rather nice! To much new look to it and they tend to look a bit ugly in my opinion
