Description Had a lot of fun arranging this shot, lol...Looks like a page from one of those "I Spy" books! I just went around the house and gathered up everything that looked vaguely steampunk or old, dumped it all on the kitchen table, then sorted it out a bit, put the necklaces into that open box, threw some watch parts into the mix, and had my hubby take pics.

We had bought a pair of gear cufflinks: [link] as a gift for our son (~gamigeek ) and his girlfriend for their birthdays (they are both very much into steampunk, so I knew they would like these). I then took the cufflinks to the local jeweler and had them saw off the whaletail backings, then brush and polish the backs of the cufflinks, and make them both into matching pendants.

My son had a lot of watch parts and gears (as you can see scattered around in the background), and I had the jeweler add some of those watch parts into the chains, to make them better compliment the pendants. So now we have "two-of-a-kind" steampunk necklaces, and I doubt any others like these exist (yet, lol). I think they came out awesome! It's a pity that there was a lot of glare on the pendants in the photo, but you can see the cufflinks better on the website I linked to.

Anyways, it was a fun shot, so I decided to post it. The title comes from my fave Rush song (which is very relevant to this image, since kids grow up way too fast, and you just want to hold onto the moment, before it's gone forever..."the innocence slips away"). Please give it a listen, if you will: [link] <3

Hehe, would be happy to send it to you, but it's broken on the bottom, so don't know if you'd want it. (I think we still have the pieces though.)

Everything about this image- from the composition to the little trinkets, to the border- not only super well composed... but I thought you were going to be making a Time Capsule!

Thanks, sweety! <3 I guess, in a way, this photo is a time capsule, to hold on to and preserve that moment in time forever.

This is brilliant, love what you're compiled here.

I've been meaning to haul out my dad's old box of Mechano so i can photograph the gears and cogs.

It's a beautifully composed display of so many trappings of technology and the mysterious Orient of yester-year. You have some lovely artifacts, plus the extra pieces-parts make for a nicer piece. As opposed to some carefully arrange display this has the charm of looking like some famous and experienced traveler's desk. The gears add a lot of charm to the pendants, and that makes me want to find some old broken watches to disassemble for my own fun and inspiration.

At first I thought those spools were black thread, but the rims look to carefully manufactured. Are those old wax (etc.) cylinders? I supposed they could be thread for an older, expensive sewing machine too. A little mystery is fun, and now I think that this picture could be a captivating clue in a mystery game.

Thank you so much for your comment! <3 The black spool-looking thing is actually a telescope! XD

This almost reminds me of some art my mother bought for me years ago. She had taken things that were her mother's and her grandmother's and had them made into framed pictures for me. I love them... the nostalgic feeling and the fact that there is family history there.
Hugs,
Anj

I keep staring at it. Very cool.

Almost makes me want to gather up my own assorted random items and turn them into a shadowbox wall hanging thing.
