Description
Threw together a bunch of ref sheets for the characters from my thesis, just for the heck of it. Their colour refs needed updating anyway and the rest are just me having fun with poses. :3 Again, this is in Traditional because the only thing digital about this are the basic colours and the text, and the focus is supposed to be the drawings anyhow.Some of you might remember Labu, my pangolin character that showed up a long time ago - she's been revamped to be more animator-friendly. ;D Monkeys are definitely something new to me, and they've been a lot of fun. (Please note that I was not going for complete accuracy on species; although each of my guys was loosely referenced from a particular primate species, as far as animation is concerned I am willing to sacrifice absolute accuracy for the sake of design and animatability. So don't yell at me if they're not completely accurate, but I would appreciate people with more experience drawing and studying monkeys than myself politely pointing out things that they think could be improved if any are noticed.
)Especially after three years of "OMG SO YUR THESIS IZ GUNNA BE ABOWT DOGZ Y/Y??" I am really excited about this. >D

(If my copyright is not respected on this, I will be severely displeased, since this is supposed to be my final year thesis and I'm already going against my own instincts posting concept stuff online as it is. Then again none of these animals are omgshinykewlkickass, so maybe nobody will be interested anyhoo.)

Oh yes I saw your animation about these guys and loved it. It was just too late at night for me to say something clever. I'd love to at least see a sketch dump of the primates becuase, like I said I love their movement and pose ability.

Those are great caricatures of the primates. Su-li is probably my favourite - I like her fluid, slender cheeky look.

Su-li is very cute XD I love the energetic characters because they are so much fun to watch (but I imagine they are a pain to animate fluidly)

Honestly, to me energetic characters are SO much more fun to animate! You get to put a lot of energy into the drawings and that is something I really enjoy.

I adore your style. Every time, new animals... always amazing. The colroed gibbon is my favorite of the doodles... but over all I like the su-li the most. Loads of personality.

I understand that they're simplified to be more animator-friendly, and accurate to their species, but it's amazing how despite that they still have very individual characterstics. :3
I think I like Su-Li best, all nimble and elegant.

I love how whenever you draw a character, even without an explanation, I feel as if I 'know' them already. You do such an amazing job at portraying each character's personalities in their movements/expressions/etc. With these guys it is no different! It's such a pleasure to view your art Swifters!

Oh man oh man! These are looking so lovely and I can see them in action already. I love the character you gave each one - Gibb's squashed-in face and long swingy arms are awesome! I love how Su-Li also has these long arms but they are swingy in a totally different way, like they're all noodly and thin instead X3 Maq's elongated face is so monkey-like XD And Labu is just so sweet, with that smoooth slope of the nose/back! Even looking at these makes me excited too! And I'm happy that you're doing monkeys instead of dogs - don't get me wrong, I love your dogs! But it's so cool to see you draw something more exotic. Good luck on your thesis, this looks like a great premise for it

Wow, very interesting, Swift! I love the styliziation on this- probably my personal favourite animated style. Rather realistic, but still they have a slgihtly cartoony touch. They all look really interesting, perhaps so far my personal favourite design is Lanu. It's so interesting to see not-so-commonly-drawn species like that! 8D

Awesome! I love primates, especially the cartoony ones, so lively. Especially Su-li and Gibbs, Maq isn't that lively, but I bet that's all apart of his personality. Almost called Labu an anteater until I read the description. Are there parts in the animation that illustrates that she's cover in scales? (like stiffness, or moments where she looks completely smooth)

Well pangolins look very similar to anteaters because they have a similar diet, so I wouldn't have faulted you for that. They are 'anteaters' after a fashion, just a more obscure species!

Oh, my thesis is my big project for my final year of art college. Normally it's a long essay/paper that people have to write, but because I am studying animation, it's a three-minute-long animated short film.
