Description
Felt like kicking back and doing some spontaneous me-art for a bit.I have always felt some kind of connection with tigers as a species, being born in good old '86 and growing up in an Asian society where there's more awareness of the Eastern zodiac (not everyone believes in it, per se, but everyone pretty much is aware of what animal they are and whatnot). Long before sighthounds and whippets I was running about the garden on all-fours pretending to be a tiger. I know now it's much more complicated than just your birth year, really, but what the hey, I was happy. In ancient China Tiger girls were thought to be bad luck because of the Tiger's headstrong and passionate nature, so I've always thought it was cool that I was one
So ANYWAY, what with Chinese New Year coming up and all (I know it's the year of the dog, but I'll be danged if I'm waiting another four years to upload this) I decided to do a picture of my zodiac animal. '86 is the year of the Fire Tiger, so I thought I'd be more specific and add the element to it as well. And I'm pretty pleased with the results.
Her name is Huohu (say HWORH-hu. I wince at the bastardized phonetics but if I hear people calling her Hohoo or something I'll yell), and I think she represents an inner strength sort of part of me. It sounds prettier in Japanese of course - Ka-Tora if I'm not wrong - but I'm leaving it in Mandarin because DANGIT THE CHINESE WERE HERE FIRST. Someday I'll put up a cel-coloured pic of her just to make her colours more clear and such.

Nice fire tiger! It looks so soft and smooth. I have a friend born in the year of the fire tiger and was thinking of drawing a fire tiger and a water dog. Thought I'd see what was around on here first though and found this
Then I read what you said about it not being exact with the year alone...But according to that I was born on the day of the water dog in the month of the fire sheep in the year of the water dog. So water dog I remain ;D

I thought so! Although I was surprised as well...I guess some people get all three matching but that'd be really rare.
You're welcome, thanks for drawing the neat picture!

Okay, this is a bit weird.
"You are White Chicken, born in the year of Brown Dragon. We can say you are a Metal Chicken, too."
I'm a chicken? Never expected that.

'Rooster' sounds nicer than 'chicken', haha. Anyway, yeah, that's your personal animal; the Dragon is your year animal. They have a different connotation in the East than in the West

Yes it does. I knew the Dragon part, but still, the chicken was rather amusing.

I'm not really big on design and logo type stuffs. Still, that's an interesting idea.. might be a challenge to show the flaming element of her. I'll think about it

Gee... I was a dragon girl... what does that make me O.o I do love being a dragon, but I would love to be all the other animals as well. I think it's awesome that you feel so strongly about your zodiac. Overe here I'm just considered to be born as a gemini with my birth flower as the rose and my stone a pearl. I actually envy you.
I never knew zodiac had elements!
This is a beautiful peice, and you can tell it really means something to you. I the name
I promise not to pronounce it incorrectly! I miss your style of tigers, I'm glad you drew one again
My sis is an ox, and my parents don't like either of us Xl
Great job!

Heh, what can I say? Tigers are just so awesome I don't live my life by horoscope, Eastern or Western - it's not a spiritual connection - but I've always felt a fondness for tigers growing up. My parents often joked that it was no wonder they couldn't always keep tabs on us, 'cause of our 'wild' signs and them being a Pig and a Dog xDD
And oh yeah, when Eastern things are brought to the West they often get simplified or bastardised for marketing's sake(I CANNOT stand all that Jake Long Juniper Lee wannabe crapazoo, sorry if you happen to like it but it gets on my nerves). There are really three animals per person, one for your birthday, birth month and birth year, each paired with one of the five elements (Water, Fire, Wood, Metal and Earth), and it's the one on your birthday that's supposed to govern your personality although the other two supposedly have an influence as well, making for a lot of personality types and variations. I'm born in the year of the Fire Tiger, the month of the Wood Horse and on the day of the Water Snake. You can find your own here: [link] Although only the hardcore superstitious people and astrologers know about the extra info, so no need to feel too bad xD
Ooh, you're a Junebaby too, eh? So am I! My country's pretty cosmopolitan, so Western stuff like birthstones and star signs are known of as well, though I haven't heard of that flower thing before. I've always loved having a pearl as my stone as well, since they're the only ones in the birthstones range that are not 'true' gems, being organically formed and all. Probably explains why I've been the oddball all my life
Thanks for commenting :3

yeah, there's birth flower, stone, color, sign, personality... and some other stuff that I can't remember. Our color (June that is) is supposedley (sp?) yellow. Whoop de doo... I also love the pearl, though they try to pass off alexandrite as the stone. It's not as unique or as pretty. Thanks for the link and you're welcome for the comment

You're a Tiger? Awesome, so is my mother (though obviously not the same kind). I got the Ox, and believe me, I live like one lol. I love love love the painterly effect, particularly on those stripes, and the edge of her mouth. And the eye just being white adds a sort of mystic quality, me likes

I'm a Tiger by year, a Snake by day and a Horse by month. Everyone has three animals and elements, although in the modern world most people think it's just a yearly thing haha Oxes are great, I've known quite a few in my time
And hee, white-eye-mysticness is something I do a lot for spirity sorts of animals xDD Thank you!

It's actually more complicated than just the birth year. They have it accurate up to the month and day you were born. For instance, I was born in the year of the Fire Tiger but in the month of the Horse and the day of the Water Snake, though most Western translations of this leave out all but the birth year. This all was news to me as well though because in my country only the really superstitious people and the astrologers bother about it xD [link]

lol, america bastardizes every asian thing there is. Like that wierd "chinese princess" costume, where the girl wears a kimono and a geisha wig. And those ughsome pronounciations in tv .. "lets go naRUUUUto, ok SAAAAHsuke!!!"
i think i can't wait till i go back to korea and read properly translated comic books.

Actually, scratch that, I probably don't want to know xP And I can't stand all the Jake Long/Juniper Lee/wtfI'MAZNSOITMAKESMEKEWL!!!11! nonsense that are popping up everywhere xP Someone please tell the bastard that Chinese long don't breathe fire. gah.
