Another installment of my Engines of-Insert Locomotive engineer, we now have a look at the SECR under Harry Wainwright. Here we have a H Class 0-4-4t, a D Class 4-4-0, and a C Class 0-6-0.Related content

nope. the d class is a class of its own. inspired by midland 4-4-0's. These engines, along with the C and H classes, were designed by James Clayton and Robert Surtees under the supervision of Wainwright. The Ashford steam reverser, along with many other things and helped by their handsomeness, made them excellent, useful, capable and free-steaming engines. It's a shame not one of his E or L class 4-4-0's, nor the non-standard J class 0-6-4 tank, nor the re-built D1, E1 and new-build L1 4-4-0's made it into preservation. One of the D's (31737) is preserved in the National Railway Museum, York, in its original livery. An H (31263) runs on the Bluebell Railway, and also preserved there is C class 31592. Both are also now in their original SE&CR livery.

No, they are two completely different classes, the SECR built these before Grouping and the other by the LNER as a group standard.
