Description
Sadly, no connective thread between these two entries in my old sprite works.Well... technically one could say SpaceGodzilla's movie was a slight 90's-tribute to the 'Showa Era', or at least it certainly felt like the 'odd man out' in terms of attitude when compared to the other entries of the 'Heisei Era'. So... maybe THAT could be the slim connection between the two?
Jet Jaguar was, apparently/supposedly, the result of a 'create a monster' contest that Toho held at one point. Jet Jaguar was the winning entry, if my memory serves me correctly. Also the fact that Toho has tried, countless times, to make their own answer to the Ultraman franchise, to limited success from the looks of it... over the years. So this could, in a way, explain why Jet Jaguar hasn't made any subsequent appearances since 'Godzilla vs Megalon'.
The result of 'cutting edge' technology, Jet Jaguar was originally just a robot made by the brilliant Goro Ibuki that somehow (despite barely having enough memory/processing power to fill a flash drive by today's standards) gained sentience, flight capability, and the ability to increase his size. Because... reasons. After being freed of the villains's control, Jet Jaguar managed to go find Godzilla and through arm gestures convinces the 'King of the Monsters' to come fight Megalon, and just in time too... because Gigan gets summoned to tip the scales in Megalon's favor.
While I was never a huge fan of Jet Jaguar myself, find the movie he's in is one of those 'So Bad It's Good' types of films... even though THAT'S the movie many people (non-fans) tend to associate with the property... for better or worse.
Made Jet Jaguar using Ultraman sprites, from the 'Towards the Future' SNES game.
SpaceGodzilla has origins fit for a Showa entry. Godzilla DNA, caught on either Biollante or Mothra as they went into space, somehow managed to not only go through a Black Hole, but also a White Hole... mutating and supercharging them... creating a new creature when it emerged on the 'other side'. All happening within a matter of four-to-five years, by the way, that would put some 'Star Trek Science' to shame. And the first thing on it's mind is to come 'home' and start shit with his genetic 'dad'. Because... reasons.
Yeah, to me Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla is one of the weaker entries of the 90's/'Heisei' Era of films. One could probably blame issues with finalizing the deal with TriStar for it's... rushed feeling. Despite that, there's always been something about the concept of an 'evil twin'/'evil clone' Godzilla that I've dug. And his design certainly is awesome, which doesn't hurt.
Sadly, he's yet to make any return appearances... outside of video games.
There have been numerous attempts, over the years, by many like me... to make sprites based on SpaceGodzilla. This was my attempt to craft such a sprite.
